week 1 - trial; day 2

seven vices case 1 trial, day 2

sunday

At 9AM, every television will go off, loud enough to wake anyone sleeping. The calm, apathetic voice will advise everyone to gather in the chapel for the trial. Static will continue to blare in the head of anyone dillydallying.

Once all of the guests have gathered in the chapel, the doors will lock. Most of the pews have been moved aside to allow for more space, and a few tables have been set up on the altar. On the first, there is an additional copy of the rulebook, and the information cards of the victim and suspects laid out, with space for the suspects to provide their whereabouts, as well as an autopsy report. There is also a large wheeled chalkboard upon which you may write theories. On the second table is a pitcher of water and some glasses, as well as very simple sandwiches and pastries.

The door behind the altar has finally been unlocked. It's a rather plain room with an area set off by a folding screen. Inside, you will find a table on which the victim's body has been laid out. Next to the table, two black and white photographs have been hung on the screen. they are close ups of the victim's body, as it was found when the body discovery announcement chimed. A few sticks of incense burn in the corner to avoid any smells.

At 5PM, the trial will close, after which everyone is expected to have cast their votes.

Did anyone search their persons yesterday? Because if not we might want to do that... and check the rooms again.

RECAP...............

Urashima Kotetsu, reporting!

( He seems a little nervous about being one of the first to speak up right now but he make up for it with spirit. )

I was thinking… it might help to review what happened yesterday in case anyone forgot.

Miss Lituania found Takao-kun’s body behind the hotel. The cause of death on the report says it appears to be a broken neck or an injury to the head but we found some evidence that suggests maybe the killer did other things to him too before he died. There were needle marks on his body and some of his hair was burned.

There were some footprints at the scene! I think we proved they belonged to Takao.

He may have been drugged with morphine and “Benadryl.” Separately, they can be used to subdue someone by making them tired. They might be deadly together? Speaking of medicine, there were cough drops in Takao-kun’s pockets! I don’t think anyone knows why he would have them, though… But it might be related to why he killed when he was! Maybe he was sick and went to get them? But why would he go get them late at night alone and meet his killer? Or did he leave with them…?

Like I said, some of his hair was burned! That might be related to the things found by the bonfire. There was some blue polyester that was torn and something plastic. The polyester isn’t from Takao’s body. There were also some scissors! Did anyone talk about that? Maybe he was near the bonfire which was how his hair got burned! But why was only his hair burned?

Uhh… we also talked a little bit about how what happens to human bodies when they die. The cold can preserve a body some which may explain why the time of death in the report isn’t very specific.

Oh, and our suspects…! ( He goes quiet for a second. He doesn’t really like calling them that. ) They’re Hanyuu, Yoite, Youko, Kaguya, and Vegeta. Some people think that powers may be involved since it looks like someone was on the roof. Vegeta, Hanyuu, and Kaguya can fly according to their profiles so maybe that helps?

I think that’s everything as far as evidence goes… there were a couple of other theories, though.

Miss Poland tried to blame Mr. Vegeta but I don’t think we should be blaming people for no reason; at least, not without proof.

And Mr. Rhys wondered if the sins on our cards may be relevant to everything. I don’t know if that’s right or not but I think it would help to look at the motive some and see if any of the suspects had a special reason to act this week! Uhh… but I guess they could lie if we asked.

I think we found out a lot yesterday but there are still a lot of questions! Like why was Takao-kun’s hair burned? And how did someone get on the roof? And maybe we should look at where the suspects were. Yoite-san may have been the last person to see Takao-kun. How was Takao-kun killed exactly? And what was he doing outside that late? Did we find a syringe? Someone is lying… or at least, not telling the whole truth so we should find them before we get another innocent person killed.

I think… that’s it! Heh heh… sorry if I made any mistakes or forgot something… I don’t normally give reports back home. But I practiced last night! If anyone has anything else to report, I think we should go ahead and say those things now.

( Ah… and he’s done. Don’t mind Urashima as he bows his head some like, thanks for your time guys. Sorry… he’ll do better next time. He’ll keep practicing giving reports if he has to…! )

Hey, can we talk about something?

[Clover's standing up on the back of a pew for this; gotta get all the height she can!! Girl your heels are too high for this you are gonna fall.]

I like making fun of Vegemite as much as the next guy but let's get this out of the way before we get started on that: the footprints. They're apparently Takao's but obviously he didn't, like, fall off the roof and then stumble around for a little bit. But nobody saw any others going to or from anywhere else, did they? And there weren't any other sets there. I think it might point towards him being flown up there, but it's tough to be sure with so much going on.

Anyone got any ideas? [Beuller????]

Who wants to set stuff on fire outside with Hinata and me?

Totally in the name of science.

I have a thought, if you'll have it.

[ after yesterday, morrigan fully accepts people not to be receptive to her, but she'd try nevertheless. ]

This theory relies heavily on other theories posited insofar, namely that the boy had been drugged, the footprints both on the ground and roof belonged to him, and that the perpetrator had the capability of flight. [ and, onto the meat and potatoes: ] Yesterday, Rhys suggested the possiblity of the sins we had been assigned relating directly to the motives we were given. I suggest that, taking this into consideration, there are only three possible culprits. Youko and Vegeta exist in fringe groups from Yoite, Hanyuu, and Kaguya, bearing the designations of Greed and Pride respectively. The latter all are assigned sloth. Along with this, it was reported that those possessing more years than the rest of us experienced time differently; the week seemed as if centuries had passed, the confines of time weighing heavily on their minds. This points to Kaguya and Hanyuu, who conveniently also are capable of flight, if the profiles are to be trusted.

I suggest that the boy was attacked near the bonfire; he was successfully drugged, but there was a struggle of sorts, resulting in his, as well as the needle's, tumble into the fire, charring the thing. If Hanyuu and Kaguya's abilities were truly strong, they would be capable of carrying the boy to the pool whilst leaving little evidence, cleverly returning him to the top of the hotel and sending him to his demise below. The wind and fire would have cooperated to dry his corpse quite fast. The boy, pitiful as he is, was a victim of circumstance, finding the culprit in the clinic on a trip to retrieve some manner of herbal tablet to alleviate some sort of ailment. [ the cough drops. ] It is possible that the blood, in fact, is evidence of a struggle between the culprit and the boy; the multitude of entry wounds on his body corroborates with this, as the culprit was unable to get ample time to be exact, resulting in many small pricks which eventually put him in a docile state.

'Tis circumstantial, surely, and I do not have conclusive evidence of any of my thoughts, yet I believe following this line and shaping our theories around Kaguya and Hanyuu specifically will illuminate truth as to the occurrences two days ago, and, as an added idea, consider the account Hanyuu has given. 'Tis most convenient she went for a dip the night of the murder.

Hey! Yoite-san mentioned Takao-kun decided he was going to go exercise. It gets really cold so he would have had to be dressed up warm, right?

( And he'll motion to the pictures of Takao's body at the scene fo the crime. He's dressed very warmly! )

He doesn't have a hat on! I didn't think it was important but when we searched his room, it didn't look like he wore any of the hats
didn't see it in his room
.

But I've seen him wear a blue one before! What if that's what the burned fabric is?

And why his hair was burned? His hat caught on fire some how?!

[ Since they have still some time to talk about it... ]

... Out of curiosity, to know where everyone else stands, how many of you have decided upon a suspect and which one of them is it if you have?

From where I stand, Hanyuu appears to be the most suspicious.

...

It seems like most of us think Hanyuu did it. But if that's the case...what's her motive exactly?

When I first arrived here, I told Hanyuu we should deal justice onto the people who trapped us here through death. I still believe in that, but Hanyuu immediately said we shouldn't. That she didn't want there to be violence here - no blood spilled. There's no reason for her to lie, not at that time.

So I want to think about why Hanyuu killed. Normally I'd just say "cause they want out", but Hanyuu doesn't strike me as a selfish person.

( Since he's been asked this a couple of times! )

Remember, this week, time was very slow. I don't think anyone could have a real "instant" death this week so regardless of how he died... maybe it was very slow for him and the killer to experience. Maybe he as injected with morphine so he could fall asleep while he died.

Morphine is used as a painkiller too, isn't it?

Maybe our killer tried to be merciful in the end...
