week 5 - day 2 trial
![]() ♫ sunday At 9AM, every television will go off, loud enough to wake anyone sleeping. The calm, apathetic voice will advise everyone to gather in the chapel for the trial. Static will continue to blare in the head of anyone dillydallying. Once all of the guests have gathered in the chapel, the doors will lock. Most of the pews have been moved aside to allow for more space, and a few tables have been set up on the altar. On the first, there is an additional copy of the rulebook, and the information cards of the victim and suspects laid out, with space for the suspects to provide their whereabouts, as well as an autopsy report. There is also a large wheeled chalkboard upon which you may write theories. On the second table is a pitcher of water and some glasses, as well as very simple sandwiches and pastries. The door behind the altar has finally been unlocked. It's a rather plain room with an area set off by a folding screen. Inside, you will find a table on which the victim's body has been laid out. Next to the table, two black and white photographs have been hung on the screen. they are close ups of the victim's body, as it was found when the body discovery announcement chimed. A few sticks of incense burn in the corner to avoid any smells. At 6PM, the trial will adjourn, after which everyone is expected to have cast their votes. >Discuss? Cheshire's Room
Super empty. Obviously didn't sleep there much.
In the nightstand he had a notebook with a drawing of him and turtlekid. His notepad had tears and scratches in places. Super boring. Sorry.
-Chanel #3
Lucy's room
We didn't find suspicious. Lots and lots of pink clothes? Cute though! Otherwise, everything was normal.
Urashima's Room
( Assume Gilbert puts the picture and the keys in one evidence box and Urashima places the bell in the same one after.
There's a note by the bell in Urashima's handwriting, )
Please don't let Mr. Break or Gilbert handle the bell. -Urashima
Inaba's room
Faize and I investigated Inaba's room. There were no signs of tampering with her door or the lock on it. There was nothing out of place in the main room. Faize was able to get into her laptop, but after going through the whole thing, all we could really determine is that she really was playing eroge, like her alibi says.
[Please take the laptop to Church.]
More importantly, I found a loose screw that must have come from one of the vents in the bathroom, and a lot of dust was disturbed in there. It's likely that someone or something was in the vents to Inaba's room. I couldn't fit through the vent to find anything else.
-Hinata
[Attached to the writeup is a small screw that sure does look like it came from one of the vents in the rooms!]
Clover's room
As usual, nothing of note was able to be located. Except that there was an immense amount of glitter everywhere to an obnoxious extent.

Satori's Room
Definitely the room of a writer! It smelled heavily of ink and there were a bunch of blank pages under Satori's bed. Hanyuu found more papers in the safe but I doubt they're relevant for this case. I didn't see anything too unusual in her room.
Oh, but I think Hanyuu mentioned something about a can of tuna in the bathroom.

Body
Near the body is two black and white photographs of the scene as it was when the body discovery chimes rang yesterday morning. The photographs are close ups - they portray Cheshire's body, but no more of the scene than is necessary to do so. Still, if you want to check his position, it makes it fairly easy.
(You may thread in this subheading to investigate the body)

Talk to Miata
summary?
The door was, unsurprisingly, blown open and shrapnel was found littering its surface. Pots and pans were strewn about and the counter-tops were barren: every item once resting on them had been pushed onto the floor by the blast.
There was evidence of tampering on the stove, notably on the gas pipe it's connected to. From this, we can conclude the explosion was caused by a gas leak.
Two items were found at the scene of the crime. The first was Inaba's notebook. It was found underneath the fridge. Inaba theorized her notebook must have been stolen and we've yet to determine the validity of this claim. The second item was a match book, this was found near Lucy. The box was missing one to two matches.
A third item was found at the pool. The item in question was a serrated knife, though currently its purpose is unknown. It could have been used to wipe off evidence or sabotage the gas pipe. Although noting its current state it is likely the latter. Yet another item was found in the laundry room: it was a pink scarf coated in kitchen grime. I suspect the culprit must have been in a rush as the scarf was found in the dryer.
During the trial it became apparent that Cheshire's most important item was missing; it is plausible the reason he took it off was felt his life may soon be in danger, though the reason why is unknown.
Assuming the knife found in the pool was the same as the weapon used to sabotage the stove, we concluded the culprit must have been active between 7:30 - 10 PM.
The suspected are: Bill, Satori, Inaba, Lucy, and Clover.
There was... some discussion concerning sins. Lucy is a virtue, and hers is diligence.
Lucy and Clover claim in their alibi they were in their room around the supposed time the set up occurred but that remains to be seen.
As we proceed through today's trial, there are a few things we should consider: why the culprit tossed the knife into the pool, why Cheshire took off his bell, and how the scarf factored into this, with the grime and grease wiped upon its surface?

There's no way someone my size could have fit through there, but... there weren't any signs of lockpicking on Inaba's door. It seems feasible that someone could have crawled through her vent for... some reason and stolen her notebook.

He probably cut the line with the knife but because of his claws, he ended up scratching the other things too. He couldn't even write without scratching the paper in his room and my room. If he was involved... that explains why he left his bell in my room too because it's important to him and maybe he didn't want to get it damaged or for anyone to hear it? But I'm pretty sure he was wearing it when I saw him last so he must have taken it off after we went to sleep...
I think... he must have messed with the stove before he came to my room because Miss Lituania ( he thinks ) said the pool is off limits after 10 which is around when we went to sleep anyway.
But if Mr. Cheshire was behind the explosion, how did he get himself killed?

Assuming she's not the killer and we can trust what she says - which I totally believe! - Lucy leaves her room at 4:45 AM the next morning. Cheshire asks her to make breakfast for him, probably expecting the stove to explode and kill her. When it doesn't thanks to the killer tampering with it, he goes up to it to examine it himself. At this point, the killer triggers the explosion - how, we don't know yet, but it probably had nothing to do with turning the stove on since we found the knobs in the off position.
That explains a lot of the evidence we've found, but there's some we haven't figured out yet that's probably tied to the killer instead of Cheshire! We don't know how the scarf was used - since it's silk, Cheshire's claws would have probably ripped it into shreds if he tried handling it, so I'm betting our killer had their hands on it instead. We also don't know who lit the matches or what they had to do with the explosion. They were found near where Lucy fell, but I'm pretty sure she said she wasn't the one to light them? And we still need to figure out how the killer triggered the explosion without ever being in the room!
One more thing - Gilbert suspects that someone else other than Cheshire came up with this plan, since it doesn't sound like something Cheshire would think of himself. So unless he's wrong - which is possible, since he was super wrong about Cheshire not wanting to murder anyone this week - then we're likely looking for Cheshire's accomplice and not just some random person who happened to notice the stove had been messed with.
