week 5 - day 2 trial

seven vices case 5 trial, day 2

sunday

At 9AM, every television will go off, loud enough to wake anyone sleeping. The calm, apathetic voice will advise everyone to gather in the chapel for the trial. Static will continue to blare in the head of anyone dillydallying.

Once all of the guests have gathered in the chapel, the doors will lock. Most of the pews have been moved aside to allow for more space, and a few tables have been set up on the altar. On the first, there is an additional copy of the rulebook, and the information cards of the victim and suspects laid out, with space for the suspects to provide their whereabouts, as well as an autopsy report. There is also a large wheeled chalkboard upon which you may write theories. On the second table is a pitcher of water and some glasses, as well as very simple sandwiches and pastries.

The door behind the altar has finally been unlocked. It's a rather plain room with an area set off by a folding screen. Inside, you will find a table on which the victim's body has been laid out. Next to the table, two black and white photographs have been hung on the screen. they are close ups of the victim's body, as it was found when the body discovery announcement chimed. A few sticks of incense burn in the corner to avoid any smells.

At 6PM, the trial will adjourn, after which everyone is expected to have cast their votes.

[Lithuania nods.] That scenario would work as well, but then we return to the problem of him getting killed by something he should have known about beforehand.
brawlhalla: (UM ► that seems wrong???)

He's not even an option to vote for.

[ ASTRID PIPES UP. ]

So he obviously can't be the culprit, here.

[Lithuania nods.] But he does seem to be responsible for stealing the notebook and at least attempting to tamper with the pipe. [They can't really prove if he severed it or not at the moment.]

Yeah, I'm not denying that. But I'm going to give the listmakers the benefit of the doubt and assume the culprit actually was responsible for his death by more than just being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

...An accidental death is considered a crime here, according to the rules.

Lets imagine Cheshire set everything up. But ultimately, who was the one who activated the trap? Maybe if he was alive, he would be considered a proper culprit. But he isn't. And we can't execute a dead person.

Okay, but let's consider how fucking stupid that is. What's the motive this week? How does getting revenge on someone by being allowed to go back and do whatever you want to them help you at all if you're dead?

Cheshire could not have been trying to kill himself for this week's motive. Getting it while being dead is utterly pointless.

Which is why I think it might be accidental. That he set it up to kill someone else, but it went wrong and he died. He didn't seek death - he made a misstep and found it.
brawlhalla: (GESTURE ► you are an idiot.)

Or his target figured him out and killed him instead.
