week 5 - day 2 trial

seven vices case 5 trial, day 2 ♫ sunday At 9AM, every television will go off, loud enough to wake anyone sleeping. The calm, apathetic voice will advise everyone to gather in the chapel for the trial. Static will continue to blare in the head of anyone dillydallying. Once all of the guests have gathered in the chapel, the doors will lock. Most of the pews have been moved aside to allow for more space, and a few tables have been set up on the altar. On the first, there is an additional copy of the rulebook, and the information cards of the victim and suspects laid out, with space for the suspects to provide their whereabouts, as well as an autopsy report. There is also a large wheeled chalkboard upon which you may write theories. On the second table is a pitcher of water and some glasses, as well as very simple sandwiches and pastries. The door behind the altar has finally been unlocked. It's a rather plain room with an area set off by a folding screen. Inside, you will find a table on which the victim's body has been laid out. Next to the table, two black and white photographs have been hung on the screen. they are close ups of the victim's body, as it was found when the body discovery announcement chimed. A few sticks of incense burn in the corner to avoid any smells. Maybe someone else realized what he was doing, and used the matches to set off the explosion while he was in front of it? That way no one else would get hurt when they tried to do the, uh. Pilot light lighting thing to make the stove work?

Lucy might not have noticed another person, and the only other witness can't directly confirm that, either.

I examined the kitchen and found no signs of a third person in the room. The shrapnel matches up with Lucy's account, as well.

It'd be impossible to throw a match from the vent into the stove, and I didn't see any signs that anyone had climbed in there, either, but...

I guess the question is, who lit the matches that actually caused the explosion?

There wasn't a third person in the kitchen when the room exploded but what if there was still a third person involved?

Maybe if Cheshire was working with someone... or maybe someone just saw the opportunity.

If Cheshire worked with someone, then I can only imagine the "someone" planned to double cross them from the start. After all, there are barely any signs that point to the other person's involvement.

Mhmm, that's what I think... but if he was working with someone, it had to be someone he trusted, right? And he didn't like a lot of people.

... Now that Lithuania has confirmed that there was no other third person in the room, what else can be considered as to who lit the matches? Cheshire couldn't, considering his claws.

The only thing I can think is that... the only other person in the room may have lit the match, or there was some kind of delayed fuse or something.

But if we're just looking at that, then we have to weigh intent to kill against true culprit.

[ Dhaos is biased as well (in a different sort of way obviously). But... ]

I believe Lucy could feasibly be an accomplice in that situation, then.

[ He can't really see that human as the ring leader, or rather, as the true culprit. ]

Whomever tampered with the trap would have the true intent to kill, correct?

That's what I think, yeah. So we have to look at this case from a different angle, like... who would Cheshire work with? Or who might have noticed Cheshire trying to enact his plan?

This is where it gets difficult. If Cheshire was working with someone, I would say Satori. However, she wouldn't turn her back on him to tamper with it.

Let us say someone did notice Cheshire attempting to enact his plan. I am thinking it's possible that individual conferred with another to cause it to backfire. Therefore, if Lucy was an accomplice to that someone... that someone could very well be Clover Field.

An accomplice?! There's no way I'm anything like that! I was as caught up in that explosion as he was.

... There were matches lit, and Cheshire could not do so by himself given his clawed hands. If there was no third person and no one else could have feasibly been able to thrown one into the room then... how else would that happen?

Unless someone entered the kitchen and ollie outed without Lucy noticing, I guess so.

If he set the trap, why would he set himself up in front of it, though?

That's... true. Well, maybe he was confused when it didn't explode Lucy? I guess that'd still be a dumb move, though.

I don't know how stoves work... but maybe someone messed with it while Cheshire was with me and that's the person we should be looking for.

What time was Cheshire with you again?

He can't get into my room without me so... I was in there around nine, I think. About an hour later, he knocked at the door to come in and we went to sleep a little after that.

Anyway, assuming Clover and Lucy aren't covering for each other and one of them didn't sneak out when the other was asleep, neither would have had a chance to tamper with the stove after Cheshire messed with it. Well...Lucy could have gotten there super early and done it then I guess, but I still think that'd be a huge risk she'd be taking assuming she could survive the blast.

All of the other suspects have a gap in their alibi when they could have done it though.
