week 5 - day 2 trial

seven vices case 5 trial, day 2

sunday

At 9AM, every television will go off, loud enough to wake anyone sleeping. The calm, apathetic voice will advise everyone to gather in the chapel for the trial. Static will continue to blare in the head of anyone dillydallying.

Once all of the guests have gathered in the chapel, the doors will lock. Most of the pews have been moved aside to allow for more space, and a few tables have been set up on the altar. On the first, there is an additional copy of the rulebook, and the information cards of the victim and suspects laid out, with space for the suspects to provide their whereabouts, as well as an autopsy report. There is also a large wheeled chalkboard upon which you may write theories. On the second table is a pitcher of water and some glasses, as well as very simple sandwiches and pastries.

The door behind the altar has finally been unlocked. It's a rather plain room with an area set off by a folding screen. Inside, you will find a table on which the victim's body has been laid out. Next to the table, two black and white photographs have been hung on the screen. they are close ups of the victim's body, as it was found when the body discovery announcement chimed. A few sticks of incense burn in the corner to avoid any smells.

At 6PM, the trial will adjourn, after which everyone is expected to have cast their votes.

After the explosion Lithuania, Poland, Hinata, and Roxy discovered Cheshire and Lucy lying in the kitchen. Despite initial appearances, Lucy survived the explosion, albeit in critical condition. Cheshire was not as fortunate. It would seem he bore the brunt of the explosion and died.

The door was, unsurprisingly, blown open and shrapnel was found littering its surface. Pots and pans were strewn about and the counter-tops were barren: every item once resting on them had been pushed onto the floor by the blast.

There was evidence of tampering on the stove, notably on the gas pipe it's connected to. From this, we can conclude the explosion was caused by a gas leak.

Two items were found at the scene of the crime. The first was Inaba's notebook. It was found underneath the fridge. Inaba theorized her notebook must have been stolen and we've yet to determine the validity of this claim. The second item was a match book, this was found near Lucy. The box was missing one to two matches.

A third item was found at the pool. The item in question was a serrated knife, though currently its purpose is unknown. It could have been used to wipe off evidence or sabotage the gas pipe. Although noting its current state it is likely the latter. Yet another item was found in the laundry room: it was a pink scarf coated in kitchen grime. I suspect the culprit must have been in a rush as the scarf was found in the dryer.

During the trial it became apparent that Cheshire's most important item was missing; it is plausible the reason he took it off was felt his life may soon be in danger, though the reason why is unknown.

Assuming the knife found in the pool was the same as the weapon used to sabotage the stove, we concluded the culprit must have been active between 7:30 - 10 PM.

The suspected are: Bill, Satori, Inaba, Lucy, and Clover.

There was... some discussion concerning sins. Lucy is a virtue, and hers is diligence.

Lucy and Clover claim in their alibi they were in their room around the supposed time the set up occurred but that remains to be seen.

As we proceed through today's trial, there are a few things we should consider: why the culprit tossed the knife into the pool, why Cheshire took off his bell, and how the scarf factored into this, with the grime and grease wiped upon its surface?

We may want to consider the idea of the scarf being used both to allow the killer to work behind the stove without getting grease on their actual clothes and as a framing device--there are two people on the suspect list who wear a lot of pink, after all.

I also wore pink this week, for the record.

[ Just going to state this now. Although she's in her school uniform today. ]

At least three people, then.

That is an idea. They could have utilized the scarf to help keep themselves clean.

...Speaking of the stove and explosions, I was wondering about something. Would it be understandable to suggest that you give the crime scene another gander?

You seemed familiar with this type of scenario. Perhaps it can assist in even precisely determining where the two were standing exactly?

I can give it a look. I was otherwise occupied while I was at the scene before. [What with Lucy in the process of potentially dying of burn wounds.]

[ He nods. ]

With all of what was going on, it makes sense you were.

[ Good luck Lithuania!! ]

It's a pretty obvious way to frame someone, especially since last week's attempts didn't work at all. But that could explain why it was just dumped into the dryer where anyone could find it easily.

[Lithuania nods.] If they were in the laundry room anyway, they could have at least thrown it in with some other clothes and had it washing. We may have looked anyway, but there would be other clothes in there to obscure it.

[Evidence A: Lucy is going to recap what she told everyone yesterday in one convenient place. This way you all don't have to go back and search through her entire thread for bits of info.]

As I said, Clover and I were together since we met up around seven last night. We went to bed a little after ten so we couldn't have done anything the night before. I woke up early and didn't want to wake her up so I decided I would go downstairs to make breakfast that we could eat back in my room. I didn't keep track of exact times but I left my room around 4:45.

When I got to the kitchen I started getting things ready to cook and bumped into Cheshire. He asked if I could make him breakfast as well and I told him I would as long as he helped me out. I don't mind sharing. When I tried to use the stove it wasn't working correctly and there was a faint smell of gas. I didn't think it was a good idea to continue messing with it so I decided to go see Miata since she is in charge of the hotel.

I was halfway across the room when Cheshire said he would look at it. I turned around to tell him not to and that is when the explosion happened. Since it was asked yesterday: No, I couldn't see clearly what he did. I was half way across the room and he was blocking my view of the stove.
