week 4 - trial; day 1

seven vices case 4 trial, day 1 ♫ saturday At 9AM, every television will go off, loud enough to wake anyone sleeping. The calm, apathetic voice will advise everyone to gather in the chapel for the trial. Static will continue to blare in the head of anyone dillydallying. Once all of the guests have gathered in the chapel, the doors will lock. Most of the pews have been moved aside to allow for more space, and a few tables have been set up on the altar. On the first, there is an additional copy of the rulebook, and the information cards of the victim and suspects laid out, with space for the suspects to provide their whereabouts, as well as an autopsy report. There is also a large wheeled chalkboard upon which you may write theories. On the second table is a pitcher of water and some glasses, as well as very simple sandwiches and pastries. The door behind the altar has finally been unlocked. It's a rather plain room with an area set off by a folding screen. Inside, you will find a table on which the victim's body has been laid out. Next to the table, two black and white photographs have been hung on the screen. they are close ups of the victim's body, as it was found when the body discovery announcement chimed. A few sticks of incense burn in the corner to avoid any smells. At 6PM, the trial will adjourn. Everyone will be escorted back to the hotel by Miata, after which everyone is allowed to head to either the kitchen to get dinner, or to their rooms. Attempting to wander off into the other areas of the hotel will trigger the static alarms in everyone's heads/televisions. >Discuss? victim   suspects      cast setting rulebook

Hey Hinata and Urashima, how deep a sleeper are you guys?

Looking at these alibis...Selena died between 1 AM and 4 AM, yeah? But the only person on the suspect list who didn't have a buddy in their room that night is...Break. So unless the killer figured out a way to murder her while staying in their room, or Vegeta and Urashima were working together, or the two of you have a hard time waking up...

[She trails off. She's really hoping the killer isn't Break...if only because those aftereffects look lame and DAMMIT HOW CAN YOU BETRAY TEAM PRIDE THIS WAY.]

Break wouldn't leave his room though, even if he was awake. He's blinder than a bat and sicker than anything else. He wouldn't be able to go out, pull off a murder in the cold like this, and come back without anyone helping him.

You sure about that? He seems like he can get around pretty well to me. Plus if he's good enough at swordmanship to get it listed as a skill, he's probably good enough to walk to a building and back without help.

...though he didn't know what glitter was when me and Clover dumped it all over him, so he probably wouldn't been able to use it in the murder! [Looking cheerful! Save team Pride.]

There were also two sets of footprints... could someone have been accompanying the culprit?

One of them could have been Selena's...though why she'd go to the police station with someone at that hour is anyone's guess. Seriously people, stop leaving your room in the middle of the night, it never ends well! Especially for those of us who have to solve these dumb trials!!

I'm sure. He was probably good at using a sword before he became blind, that isn't a skill that just disappears. Which, yeah, he's good at being blind, but not the point that he can commit murder.

It's not that hard, you know! Humans seem to be pretty squishy. Even a blind guy can figure out how to stick the pointy end into them!

And then... set up a fire and slit her throat and escape the fire while leaving her to die?

All while blind? And also really frail! He coughed up blood on me the other day because he pushed himself too hard. There's just -- there's just no way.

Break is the last thing from helpless, but he's not well enough to commit a murder like this.

No, because he's sick. If he exerts himself too much, his body fights back and he starts coughing up blood. He coughed up blood on me last trial just by trying to help me up off the floor.

Pretty normal, I think? ( He crosses his arms and makes a face, trying to judge how heavily he slept and then he ends up making a bit of a troubled face before he quietly confesses, ) But I was really tired last night.

So Vegeta totally could have done it!

I guess... but yeah, it would have been really risky. If I woke up and saw him leaving or missing, I'd definitely tell everyone right now.

Right! Was this the first time you two slept together? Because if it was, then he couldn't have known if you were a light or heavy sleeper beforehand anyway!

It was my first time! I only did because I found out he didn't have anyone else when I asked.

Does this really seem like the sort of motive that would work on Vegeta, anyway? He's like me more than he isn't. Regrets aren't something you fix magically.

Exactly! [SHE KNEW YOU'D GET IT ASTRID but also ugh defending Vegeta] Even if I did have any regrets in my life, I sure as hell wouldn't want to trust this stupid town to fix it for me or owe it anything. If the sins really do have something to do with the motive, I can't see anyone from Team Pride being so weak as to give it up for something like this!

Well, I didn't say that. I couldn't see you or Vegeta doing it - you're straightforward. But Break doesn't seem to be. I'm not saying he for sure did it, but he's the only one of us I haven't written off.
