week 4 - trial; day 1
![]() ♫ saturday At 9AM, every television will go off, loud enough to wake anyone sleeping. The calm, apathetic voice will advise everyone to gather in the chapel for the trial. Static will continue to blare in the head of anyone dillydallying. Once all of the guests have gathered in the chapel, the doors will lock. Most of the pews have been moved aside to allow for more space, and a few tables have been set up on the altar. On the first, there is an additional copy of the rulebook, and the information cards of the victim and suspects laid out, with space for the suspects to provide their whereabouts, as well as an autopsy report. There is also a large wheeled chalkboard upon which you may write theories. On the second table is a pitcher of water and some glasses, as well as very simple sandwiches and pastries. The door behind the altar has finally been unlocked. It's a rather plain room with an area set off by a folding screen. Inside, you will find a table on which the victim's body has been laid out. Next to the table, two black and white photographs have been hung on the screen. they are close ups of the victim's body, as it was found when the body discovery announcement chimed. A few sticks of incense burn in the corner to avoid any smells. At 6PM, the trial will adjourn. Everyone will be escorted back to the hotel by Miata, after which everyone is allowed to head to either the kitchen to get dinner, or to their rooms. Attempting to wander off into the other areas of the hotel will trigger the static alarms in everyone's heads/televisions. >Discuss? setting rulebook |

I'm sure. He was probably good at using a sword before he became blind, that isn't a skill that just disappears. Which, yeah, he's good at being blind, but not the point that he can commit murder.

All while blind? And also really frail! He coughed up blood on me the other day because he pushed himself too hard. There's just -- there's just no way.
no subject
Anyway my point is if it's not him, then we need to start figuring out how the killer could have snuck out of their room without their buddy noticing or how Selena could have died when the killer wasn't near her.
no subject
Yeah, I agree with that. Just... not with Break. It doesn't make sense for him, okay.
[ he doesn't really want to do anything but whiteknight break, apparently ]

[Even though it totally worked for him?!]

Anyway, I could do it if that's what people wanted to hear, but I don't need to ask him if he's guilty. I already know he's innocent! I've been by Break's side for ten years. I know him better than anyone else here, and I absolutely know that there isn't a chance in hell he would be bribed by a motive like this!
no subject
That's amazing! I can feel the power of your hearts combined emanating from you! Use the strength of your bond to find the real killer! [what does this even mean] Starting with figuring out how the heck someone managed to kill Selena if they had a buddy in their room when she died!!
no subject
First of all, Urashima and Vegeta are each other's alibis, but they're both on the suspect list. That should already be taken with a grain of salt, right? One might have left and returned without the other knowing what they were doing, but if they caught that person waking up and leaving, it might have still been enough to count them as a "knowing accomplice". Faize slept in the bed closer to the door, so all we have to go off of there is Hinata's word that the sound of the door opening should have woken him up - but they're on the first floor, so it's possible Faize could have left through the window and made less sound that way. It would be harder for you, since you would only be able to exit through the door unless you jumped three floors down.
no subject
I can jump down three floors easily! Last week, I was pushed off the roof and didn't even bruise! [because clearly this is the most important part of that statement] But Papyrus barely sleeps so I'd still be taking a huge risk.
I think Urashima would speak up if he caught Vegeta leaving the room. [Not too sure about the other way around though because who knows about Vegeta.] Still, no matter who it was, it'd be super risky no matter what, yeah? The killer would have to be able to sneak out without waking up their buddy and somehow know that their buddy wouldn't wake up and notice they were gone afterwards. Plus how would they even know Selena would be up at that hour?
no subject
—Who pushed you off the roof?! [UNDYNE?? He's so old, he can't deal with this.]
It would definitely be a risk, but that's what had to have happened, because I know it isn't Break. [STANS FOR BREAK ENDLESSLY.] Anyway, there's nothing concrete to prove that any of you were actually in your rooms. Besides, if someone had seriously decided to kill someone, I don't think just having a buddy who might wake up would stop them.
...I'm not sure how they knew Selena would be out there, though. She doesn't seem like the kind of person who would follow a note or even someone telling her directly, "let's meet in the police station after midnight on Thursday".
[Unless she was secretly Beat in a Selena costume.]
no subject
But it's kind of weird that they'd agree to have a buddy at all in that case, yeah? Urashima said he asked Vegeta, so it's not like someone asked to buddy with him and he couldn't find a good reason to refuse.
If the footsteps from the trail outside are hers, then it looks like she agreed to walk to the police station with the killer for some reason. So either it's someone she really trusted, or...maybe she could have been planning to kill them herself.

If this is Morrigan all over again, I'll just hang myself next.
[ rhys, do you know how many people would enjoy that?? ]

It won't be, so help me figure this out, all right?
no subject
Yeah, yeah. I'm on the case or whatever.

—By the way, in case that cat goes at it again, the bruises on Selena's arm could be a match for that burnt stick, too. He immediately jumped to the conclusion that it was Break's cane.
[HE'S MAD.]

[ a glance over at cheshire and he runs his fingers through his hair. hm. ]
Yeah, I never listen to what he says. He's pretty dumb. It was probably the stick. Otherwise, why would a stick be there?
no subject
Some people thought it may have been used to start the fire or aid it somehow, but it may have had two uses.
no subject
Beating Selena and setting the fire?
[ wait ]
-- I also want to go on record that I am massively uncomfortable with the phrase "beating Selena". With a stick! Really! Come on, have more class, murderer!
no subject
We should probably figure out why they did that too, considering she was stabbed. Why hit her with the broom? They may have been trying to disarm her, but I don't see why if they had a sword on hand.
