week 5 - execution & aftermath
![]() ♫ sunday After everyone has voted, the paper and photos will disappear. Miata will usher everyone outside, only allowing them to grab their coats and weather-appropriate gear, and lead them to the bonfire. Floating in the middle of the flames, a list appears, clear as day. >Gather? cast setting rulebook |
VOTING RESULTS
By a majority vote and a really fucking stupid technicality, Lucy Steel has been found guilty for the murder of Cheshire.
Lucy, a few moments for your last words.

I wish this could end any other way... I'm sorry.
[She never expected them to really follow through to elect an innocent party for her. The sad smile shares that much at least.]

[Hinata's not crying, but his voice is hoarse and quiet as he tilts his head, trying to meet her eyes.]
We're... going to find a way to save you. All of you. We just... have to keep working toward the truth.

The letters. [Her voice is hoarse but sharp, sudden.] I remember. I remember. I'll make—I'll make sure—and I'll put them with—with mine, so my brother, he'll—if I don't—he can, he can make sure, if I...

[ He realizes he likely doesn't have much room to say anything, but. ]
I'm sure this is a sentiment shared by many here. Hopefully, there can something done about all of this soon enough.
[ Self-defense isn't the same as callously murdering another, that is for sure. ]

[Because even though she suspected this to be the case from the start, it still hurts to know.]

We saved you once?
So. [Poland punches her fist with her hand, looking determined.] We'll save you again.

EXECUTION: Lonely Hearts Club (cw for body horror)
The grass is green and the plains are endless as Lucy rides on horseback along rolling hills. The sky is blue and everything is so wide, open, and free, that Lucy appears happy for a moment. In the distance, a steam whistle shrieks, piercing through the air and she looks up confused and then concerned. She kicks at her horse, trying to get it to hurry and it pulls up along a set of railroad tracks. Lucy pulls at the reins, trying to get the horse to turn away but it keeps running parallel to the tracks. The train’s whistle shrieks again and she kicks at the horse once more. If she can’t leave the tracks, she must outrun the train. She rides and rides, kicking at her horse, frantically trying to beat the inevitable.
And that’s when it starts to happen.
Her fingers, which grip the reins, begin to crack and chip away and it spreads up to her wrists, to her forearms, her arms, and more. It’s happening to the rest of her body too and everyone can see the skin on legs die away. Whole pieces of flesh begin to fall off showing her raw muscle underneath. Lucy looks down at what is left of her hands— decaying flesh, rotten muscle, it’s hideous to see but through it all, it begins to crystalize until her fingers begin to fall off. Despite everything, she doesn’t appear to be in pain— only afraid. She keeps riding even as the train pulls up next to her.
She loses her shoulder, a part of her thigh, a leg— crystalized body parts start to fall off until she herself— only torso, an arm, leg, and her head, fall off the horse and onto the ground. When she falls, there she is with a new body.
The train begins to slow down to a stop and from one of the cars, a man steps out.
Lucy lays on the ground, unmoving but eyes still bright and aware, face twisted in horror. The man reaches down to pick her up and her eyes widen and though her mouth is silent and her body is moving, it’s clear that’s she would scream if she could. There is absolutely nothing she can do as he cradles her body close. He gets back onto the train with her and there’s a loud, piercing shriek— whether it’s the whistle or Lucy, one must decide. ]
((Characters are free to disperse at this point.))

And she's gone. That's it, Lucy's—she's—
There's no screaming, no fits, no desperate wailing. Clover staggers a half-step forward when Lucy vanishes from her arms, and stops. The tears from before still stain Clover's face, but nothing new follows. She's stopped shaking. She watches the execution all the way through, her eyes wide and still but unfocused.
Clover doesn't make a sound when she collapses to her knees in the snow. There's no noise at all when she slumps over, curling into herself. The too slight rise and fall of her chest with each breath comes too slow, too far apart. It's the only movement she makes at all.
Without looking carefully, she could be dead, too.]

He never knew Lucy all that well, but they had talked a bit before this trial. And even if he didn't, even if she was a human...did she truly deserve this? After fighting back in self-defense? Just to save her life?
He has to look away. It's enough to make anyone sane feel sick. ]

So is anything going to happen to us? [ No weird pains, she's just rubbing at her eyes. It must be nap time again, where's Poland. ]

He's... not sure what he's expecting. Body aches from the explosion, maybe, or stabbing pains from shrapnel? For once, it's more subtle than that, leaving him wrapping his arms tightly around him to ward off a sudden chill. His cheeks flush, and he wobbles, suddenly dizzy.
At least he doesn't fall this time! That's a plus. He looks pretty unsteady, though.]
