seven vices week 1 ♫ monday - thursday Monday morning begins just like the rest, slow and uneasy. At 12pm, every television will go off with its usual bout of static, followed by a calm, albeit disinterested, voice. "Please gather in the hotel lobby within the next hour." That's all that it says before the televisions turn off. Anyone not in their rooms will hear the voice echoing around them as if through a speaker system, although there are (still) no speakers present. Curiously, anyone who has spoken with Miata for any period of time during the past week will notice that the voice coming from the television and her own do not match up. Come Tuesday, the footsteps around the void will begin drifting away from it. The pitter-patter of feet can be heard when standing outside the clinic and chapel as well. On top of the food that was added to the kitchen last week, spaghetti noodles and tomato sauce is now available. You're welcome, Papyrus. >Mingle? [ The corkboard sign that Miata had set up the week before now has a trio of names in its empty slots, along with a short explanation written on an accompanying page.]

MOTIVE

[ ...and the other thing of note in the lobby is the large grandfather clock, upon which Miata is sitting, her head nearly colliding with the ceiling. Her expression is unreadable, and she won't respond to any questions until the motive is done being given.

Next to the clock is a small table bolted to the ground, holding an equally small analog television. Attempting to lift it will reveal that it is also secured to the table.

Once all 36 people have gathered in the lobby....nothing happens. For what seems like an irritatingly long period of time, absolutely nothing goes down. The only noise is the ticking of the clock, and Miata's shoes tapping its case as she swings her legs back and forth. At last the television will turn on much like the ones in everyone's rooms. The soft, monotone voice begins to speak. ]

Congratulations, you've made it through the week. But this is only the beginning. Sometimes, one needs a little push in order to take action, no?

Time is a tricky thing. You've only been living in our lovely town for a little over a week now, but some of you are getting awful cabin fever. And it will keep getting worse. You'll find time is moving very strangely, now. Perhaps maddeningly so? But, of course, all that needs to happen to stop it is for blood to be spilled. Tata, my doves.

[ That's evidently all the voice has to say, as the TV fades out into static and shuts off on its own. The effect is almost obvious despite the vagueness, however, as the clock will only have advanced about 5 minutes since the first person entered the room. ...just how long were you standing there, anyway?

As can be guessed, everyone's sense of time will be incredibly distorted. Minutes will become hours, hours will amplify tenfold. As the days drag on, the effect will become more and more severe. By the time Thursday comes, all you normal humans will feel as though you've been here for a good thirty to forty years, and the resident immortals will get several hundred.

The only bastions of logic in this situation will be the clocks. Both the grandfather clock, and the digital clocks in the everyone's rooms will show time progressing as normal. ]

[ This is definitely interesting. Of course she plans on jotting down everything word for word on one of the notepads from her room but she doesn't seem to be the least concerned. ]

I was honestly expecting something worse. [ At least she can handle this, even though she's glancing up at the clock. Huh. She could have sworn she was in here longer... but that's fine.

That isn't to say that it's not Bad, but it could be worse??? ]

Well...it is only the first week.

That's true. [ She can't disagree with that, and it shows with her strained smile. ]

But even so, this is something strange to start with, I feel.

So it's all about time again.

[Sisuca's been there. The Perpetual Day. Someone could live trapped in that sort of world forever. She takes a deep breath. Is this going to be worse than that? It probably will be, she has a feeling.]

[In the objective seconds after Miata is finished, Takao looks incredibly cranky - it's an obvious tendency that has manifested in any mealtime conversation, his eagerness to engage and frustration when he has to quietly wait his turn. So his relief is palpable when Inaba pipes up and he can chime in.]

Yeah! I mean, we're basically in the same situation as before. Keep looking for a way out until we find one, and never kill anybody.

It's an odd motivation, isn't it? [Patience seems to be the real way to overcome this. Lithuania is good at patience.]

I think the best way for us to try to overcome this... is make sure there's enough interesting things going on to keep from getting too bored.

[Maybe? He's just throwing the idea out there.]

I was expecting something more...compelling. Though I suppose I shouldn't complain. The less compelling the motive, the easier it will be to resist.

Have you gone through something like this before?

It may not change our situation as a whole, but it does change how we should look at things. If time is distorted, we should try spending as much of it as possible looking for a way out, but not too much of it like that, in case of stress.

Basically, I think we have to balance it, is what I'm saying. I have my laptop with me, so if anyone wants to play some games on it -- I don't mind, as long as you don't break it. And I'm here to listen to whatever anybody has to say, too.

[ A shrug; she would like the distraction. ]

Maybe not exactly like this, but...I've known people who have been stuck in a perpetual day, living the same day over and over.

[She shakes her head. Her world is weird, okay? But that's because people keep fusing other worlds to it, it's not their fault.]

There's powerful universal magic at play here. Mama's sure of it!

That's not hard. With a bunch of people here not familiar with technology, I can have some of them play some games on my laptop.

Plus, I'd be fine with getting to know everyone; I haven't had the chance to do much of that, considering that I had my mind on other things most of the week and I got knocked out on Wednesday.

[At least they don't have that situation. At least their days will be somewhat different? But there was little enough to do over the last few days that the idea of feeling like time is moving even more slowly is... concerning.]

How did they get through it?

It is. I wonder if all the other motives will be this strange.

[And she's so proud of Sieg! Her voice makes that very clear. She's warm and proud, just like a mother should be.]

He recognized something was wrong and he refused to accept it. I think inner strength is going to be really important here, okay? So don't give up.

Why are you up on top of the clock like that? You could fall.
