week 8 - trial; day 1

seven vices case 8 trial, day 1 ♫ saturday At 9AM, every television will go off, loud enough to wake anyone sleeping. The calm, apathetic voice will advise everyone to gather in the chapel for the trial. Static will continue to blare in the head of anyone dillydallying. Once all of the guests have gathered in the chapel, the doors will lock. Most of the pews have been moved aside to allow for more space, and a few tables have been set up on the altar. On the first, there is an additional copy of the rulebook, and the information cards of the victim and suspects laid out, with space for the suspects to provide their whereabouts, as well as an autopsy report. There is also a large wheeled chalkboard upon which you may write theories. On the second table is a pitcher of water and some glasses, as well as very simple sandwiches and pastries. The door behind the altar has finally been unlocked. It's a rather plain room with an area set off by a folding screen. Inside, you will find a table on which the victim's body has been laid out. Next to the table, two black and white photographs have been hung on the screen. they are close ups of the victim's body, as it was found when the body discovery announcement chimed. A few sticks of incense burn in the corner to avoid any smells. At 6PM, the trial will adjourn. Everyone will be escorted back to the hotel by Miata, after which everyone is allowed to head to either the kitchen to get dinner, or to their rooms. I could not find Urashima-san, and I was worried, so I went to look for him. After looking outside for a bit, I went towards the boat-house because I saw something in the snow. I think it was the jar of glitter on the ground.

So, I walked further towards it and...found Field-san hanging from the tree.

[ ............. ]

She wasn't moving, and there wasn't anyone else in the area.

What about the scene itself? Were there footprints?

[ He'd hope so, unless the ghosts decided to murder, in which case, rude af. But he's more asking if there were two sets rather than just Clover's, since that one is fairly obvious. ]

And I suppose for Clover herself, it seems important that we establish her whereabouts throughout the day too. When we find the gap, we'll be able to narrow down our timeframe further.

That should be easy enough. [Wow Undyne sure does sound kind of dead inside today!!] She was with me the entire morning right up to the point I started chasing after Sans. I left her behind in the lobby when I ran after him since I figured she'd be safer in a room full of people, but...

[She trails off, looking pretty miserable because yeah that hadn't worked out well.]

[ He nods ]

Do you know roughly what time that was? And why did you chase after Sans?

[detanimetion]

It was a little after ten AM - probably around 10:10 or so?

[She sighs, running her hand through her hair. As annoyed as she is with Sans, she doesn't actually blame him for Clover's death or think he's guilty in the least, so she tries to push down her temper and give a reasonable explanation.]

We were getting worried about Papyrus since he hadn't shown up yet - I know he has immunity this week, but... [It's Papyrus.] Just because he can't die doesn't mean someone can't try to use him somehow. Then we saw his dumb dog carrying a bone and it must have freaked Sans out, because he started running off on his own. With no one dead yet, I figured anyone going anywhere alone would be a one-way ticket to Murdertown or that someone might even be luring him into a trap, especially with how weak and fragile Sans is.

[crazily]

[ Well, she wasn't wrong, but luckily Break has the shred of decency necessary to not say that. Slash maybe he liked Clover too, so he won't be an ass. ]

And the bone? Do you know where that came from?

[thebonezone]

i can answer that one.

[sans uses a bit of magic and wow look at that there is a tiny femur in his hand. the world's smallest femur]

undyne's magic is spears, papyrus an' i have bones. it's why the dog's always following us around.

[crazily]

[ Spears, Break can understand. But bones? That's weird. Like, super weird. There's definitely a moment where he pauses incredulously, then makes a beckoning motion to hold the bone. That's the only way for him to confirm this. ]

I...see.

[ He doesn't actually want to ask, since he's fairly certain he won't understand, but. ]

Then how would the dog have gotten one?

they can hang around longer than undyne's spears. my bro's had his special attack stolen by that dog more times than he can count. there's probably a bunch in papyrus's room from his training.

[crazily]

[ Break nods, but he'll look back to Undyne, since he just wants to confirm: ]

Is that true, Undyne?

[detanimetion]

It's the size that matters, not how long they last!

[so yeah it's true]

don't papyrus's bones go bigger than your spears?

[detanimetion]

He can only hold it that size for a few seconds at most! My spears are naturally that big.

[thebonezone]

your spears also only last a few seconds naturally, so isn't that the same?

[detanimetion]

I can keep my spears around for as long as I need to! It's just easier letting them fade out faster!

[thebonezone]

hey, you don't have to justify yourself. i like going the easy way with my bullets too.

[crazily]

[ That gets Break to snicker, and he waves a hand her way ]

That's not quite what I meant, but dully noted. Let me be clearer: are there bones simply lying around as described?

[detanimetion]

Oh yeah, those things can last forever. I have a drawer full of Papyrus's bones back home that are probably still there.

[Beat.] I mean I would. If I hadn't burned my house down recently.

[crazily]

[ This at least clears up what Break had been wondering, so that's more or less his curiosity satisfied with weird bone creating powers. But. This is Undyne, so that last part definitely gets him to pause. He looks like he's debating whether to ask or not, but curiosity gets the best of him. ]

...Dare I ask?

[detanimetion]

I set it on fire with my PASSION FOR COOKING!!

[how is this even remotely a surprise break]

THAT STUPID DOG... IT'S ALWAYS STEALING MY SPECIAL ATTACKS!!

[Sigh... his life is so hard]

I ALWAYS JUST HAVE TO JUST A COMPLETELY NORMAL ATTACK....

Yeah, there were footprints.

[Chiming in because he's the one who found them!]

I couldn't tell what kind of shoe they were for, but I did make a tracing of them. They were, uh... next to, and underneath her body, and pretty small. They were kind of broken up, too.

I was thinking it wouldn't be a bad idea to ask the suspects if I could compare their shoes to it. It's possible it could be Clover's, though, her feet seem to be about the right size.

[ He nods ]

It seems fair to me. After all, unless our culprit were hovering, they would have had to make footprints, after all~. It's possible that the visible ones are Clover's, but it would be best not to miss something that simple.

Well... of our suspects, Dhaos can fly. But yeah, I'll do that, then.

[crazily]

Satori can as well.

[ So it's definitely not outside of possibility here, which is what gets Break to nod. ]

I'll leave that to you, in that case. Obviously in that respect, I'm not much help~.
