week 8 - trial; day 1

seven vices case 8 trial, day 1 ♫ saturday At 9AM, every television will go off, loud enough to wake anyone sleeping. The calm, apathetic voice will advise everyone to gather in the chapel for the trial. Static will continue to blare in the head of anyone dillydallying. Once all of the guests have gathered in the chapel, the doors will lock. Most of the pews have been moved aside to allow for more space, and a few tables have been set up on the altar. On the first, there is an additional copy of the rulebook, and the information cards of the victim and suspects laid out, with space for the suspects to provide their whereabouts, as well as an autopsy report. There is also a large wheeled chalkboard upon which you may write theories. On the second table is a pitcher of water and some glasses, as well as very simple sandwiches and pastries. The door behind the altar has finally been unlocked. It's a rather plain room with an area set off by a folding screen. Inside, you will find a table on which the victim's body has been laid out. Next to the table, two black and white photographs have been hung on the screen. they are close ups of the victim's body, as it was found when the body discovery announcement chimed. A few sticks of incense burn in the corner to avoid any smells. At 6PM, the trial will adjourn. Everyone will be escorted back to the hotel by Miata, after which everyone is allowed to head to either the kitchen to get dinner, or to their rooms. It's not necessarily a matter of appearances... It's possible for someone to be human, but not actually be human, you know. That's why I ask, since that's definitely not something a normal person could do.

...Well, I'm not normal, fine, but that's not my point anyways. Fighting while blind is just a matter of using your other senses more sharply, and as a swordsman, you learn to be more attentive to such things anyways. Surviving fireballs is completely different.

It's totally the same thing! All the human history vids I've seen show them surviving fireballs and bullet wounds and electrocution and falling off buildings and getting stabbed in the gut just by slapping a bandage on them! All you have to do to survive a fireball is be quick on your feet!

Of course! Alphys was the one who introduced me to them, and she's the Royal Scientist! She's the smartest monster in the entire Underground, she knows what she's talking about. There's no way she'd be wrong! [No, but she sure will lie to her hot crush about her weabooshit being 'history' to make her seem cooler...]

[ And yet, Break doesn't even doubt that this royal scientist might believe it too... After all, there's a much simpler explanation than that, which is the one he goes with! He holds up a finger as if to stop her (because really undyne), but then wags it back and forth. ]

You know, I think you might just have a slightly inaccurate understanding of humans... Whatever they are, they're a bit misleading, I think.

It's been over a thousand years since they had any contact with monsters after all, they must have all evolved to be waaaay weaker without any of us to fight!

[ This is the point in the conversation where Break truly gives up, and you can see it on his face. It's in fact very similar to the face he'll make when he gets covered in pink glitter, since this feels roughly as ridiculous. ]

...It's not a lecture I want to give, but if that's a question, I feel like maybe I should.

I told you I get it already! Humans are fragile little eggs who can't take a hit unless they're on Team Pride and I should treat them all like Sans and not punch them or throw them out the window when they don't have immunity.

[Honestly, Break should have some sympathy for her here. Imagine not being able to smack Gilbert whenever he was being annoying because he might actually shatter into dust and die.]

[ He still feels a slight fear that he (or Astrid) might end up getting Undyne'd to death, but at the same time? All things considered, that's probably a better way to go. ]
