week 1 - trial; day 2

seven vices case 1 trial, day 2

sunday

At 9AM, every television will go off, loud enough to wake anyone sleeping. The calm, apathetic voice will advise everyone to gather in the chapel for the trial. Static will continue to blare in the head of anyone dillydallying.

Once all of the guests have gathered in the chapel, the doors will lock. Most of the pews have been moved aside to allow for more space, and a few tables have been set up on the altar. On the first, there is an additional copy of the rulebook, and the information cards of the victim and suspects laid out, with space for the suspects to provide their whereabouts, as well as an autopsy report. There is also a large wheeled chalkboard upon which you may write theories. On the second table is a pitcher of water and some glasses, as well as very simple sandwiches and pastries.

The door behind the altar has finally been unlocked. It's a rather plain room with an area set off by a folding screen. Inside, you will find a table on which the victim's body has been laid out. Next to the table, two black and white photographs have been hung on the screen. they are close ups of the victim's body, as it was found when the body discovery announcement chimed. A few sticks of incense burn in the corner to avoid any smells.

At 5PM, the trial will close, after which everyone is expected to have cast their votes.

You might wanna forget them concepts, because you could for real die here.
brawlhalla: (NOPE ► this is not a thing.)

[personal profile] brawlhalla 2016-02-22 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
That doesn't mean anything. An incentive and "have to" are still really different, you know. If someone is going to kill people, the least they can do is take responsibility for doing it.

[ THEY DID THE DO. ]

If they really wanted to be merciful, THEY WOULDN'T HAVE KILLED ANYONE!! Or they could have just confessed right away instead of trying to get someone else to take the fall for them!!

I see. [She wasn't really friends with either of them but her face steels anyway.] Thank you for the clarification.

I'm open to anyone with good reasoning to the contrary, of course, but for now, it seems like this makes the most sense.

If so, at least I beat her to it.

That's what makes human nature so interesting. People are capable of anything if given the right incentive.

Yet another thing I don't have a goddamn clue about.

You know, I think someone like you, who "exists beyond concepts of life and death", wouldn't give a shit about killing another person.
brawlhalla: (GESTURE ► there it is.)

Kinda the point. The killer doesn't want to be discovered.

My rival.

[She's pretty sure that's an accurate term.]

What reason would I have to?

What is it?

( He knows Astrid is right! But he also thinks he's right. So which one is more right... ugh, it's pretty obvious and Urashima is quiet. He's really too nice for this. )

... Yes.

Trying to get another innocent person killed even after everything that's happened isn't good.

( But he's still not going to be happy even if they're right. )

Did you not notice how they've actually played right into this stupid game? Which means everything is going how these weirdo kidnappers want it? I've seen a bunch of innocent people die thanks to killers who had a decent motive, and guess what? It doesn't change anything. [ Oh look she's actually angry. ]

Anyone who kills, and gets away, is guaranteed to not have to deal with this anymore. No one can kill you and you can escape whenever this is over.
brawlhalla: (GLANCE ► what's up buttercup?)

[personal profile] brawlhalla 2016-02-22 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
It isn't. By letting us vote for whoever, they're making the decision to kill - again.

[ and this time presumably it won't be merciful and drugged out or whatever. ]

You're a nice guy, but the world isn't always a nice place. Okay?
aeterna_filia: (Bitch please)

[personal profile] aeterna_filia 2016-02-22 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Have I already not made it clear that dying is not a concern for me?
unpleasantries: (I laughed out loud)

[personal profile] unpleasantries 2016-02-22 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
The third eye didn't give that away?

[She idly ties the tendrils of her eye into a noose, then unties it - only to begin retying it again as she explains.]

Youkai are...spirits, of a sort. Otherwordly creatures with supernatural powers. There are all kinds of them - you look like a certain kind of youkai, yourself, so I had assumed you were one too.

And I'm just supposed to believe you?

Immortals like you were heavily affected by the time changes. You may have an eternity to live, but do you want to spend it here? I doubt it.
aeterna_filia: (Sighhhhhh)

[personal profile] aeterna_filia 2016-02-22 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
As I said before, it's a waiting game.

I've had to wait centuries for something to amuse me before.

[Shrug.]

I'm a Chain. It sounds similar, but Chains normally can't exist outside of the Abyss without consuming humans for energy.

There's a few exceptions to that.

So you told us they aren't all that powerful and I don't think you have a reason to lie about it. Is there absolutely no way it can kill a person?
unpleasantries: (Another only pain)

[personal profile] unpleasantries 2016-02-22 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
Are you one of the exceptions, or have you been made an exception by whatever force it was that brought us here?
