week 7 - trial; day 1
![]() ♫ saturday At 9AM, every television will go off, loud enough to wake anyone sleeping. The calm, apathetic voice will advise everyone to gather in the chapel for the trial. Static will continue to blare in the head of anyone dillydallying. Once all of the guests have gathered in the chapel, the doors will lock. Most of the pews have been moved aside to allow for more space, and a few tables have been set up on the altar. On the first, there is an additional copy of the rulebook, and the information cards of the victim and suspects laid out, with space for the suspects to provide their whereabouts, as well as an autopsy report. There is also a large wheeled chalkboard upon which you may write theories. On the second table is a pitcher of water and some glasses, as well as very simple sandwiches and pastries. The door behind the altar has finally been unlocked. It's a rather plain room with an area set off by a folding screen. Inside, you will find a table on which the victim's body has been laid out. Next to the table, two black and white photographs have been hung on the screen. they are close ups of the victim's body, as it was found when the body discovery announcement chimed. A few sticks of incense burn in the corner to avoid any smells. At 6PM, the trial will adjourn. Everyone will be escorted back to the hotel by Miata, after which everyone is allowed to head to either the kitchen to get dinner, or to their rooms. Attempting to wander off into the other areas of the hotel will trigger the static alarms in everyone's heads/televisions. >Discuss? setting rulebook |

It's definitely pretty weird, but there's a small assortment of things set aside on the counter nearby. They're all ingredients that vaguely go together, and from this, you can probably make an educated guess what he's trying to do here. He's trying to cook himself something to eat, since surprisingly, he's actually a passable cook, though not as good as Gilbert. Even so, he hadn't tried cooking while he was blind before, so... This is taking a while.
When someone enters, it seems like he's quite frustrated, so he stands straighter to look in their direction over the door. ]
Can you just— [ His words are short and clipped, but then he grumbles as he forces his tone to soften. ]
I... need some help.

I... hadn't really decided yet, honestly. Figuring out what anything is ended up being harder than I expected.
[ Break shrugs ] Some sort of pasta seemed fairly simple.

[ He exhales a sigh of defeat, but it's really just because he finds this embarrassing. He's ride or die Team Pride, so this is probably a circle of hell for him. ]
I'm not a bad cook, but I also haven't done it in a long time. The last time I did, I could see perfectly well, so this is... a challenge.
no subject
Mm. We still find stuff my brother hasn't done since he was sighted, too, and we were just kids when that happened. I can help you through stuff if you want. [Maybe this will be mildly less circle of hellish if he helps?? She remembers the adjustment phase, she can be helpful.]

Not that I'm aware. I joke about having diabetes, but that's a lie. [ did you really think anyone believed you, break... ] But I would appreciate that, actually.
[ Break rubs the back of his head awkwardly, then bows it lightly. ]
I was thinking about it today, but it hasn't really been that long. I had to get used to it so quickly that it's felt like longer, but away from here, it's probably only been a month.

Is that really all? You really did figure stuff out quickly, 'cause I never would've guessed. You find your way around really well. [And now that she's done throwing everything everywhere, she can actually organize it so there's an actual setup for cooking on the counter instead of just a mess of food and dishware.] You up for chopping stuff?
no subject
[ The swordsman can definitely handle chopping, at least! So he'll move over to the counter where she's setting things out, though he might have to be nudged more towards a cutting board if he didn't happen to guess it's location correct. ]
But yes, it's a surprise, isn't it? Even I'm surprised, actually. [ He laughs a little, though it's a tired laugh. ] My illness is degenerative, but the fact that I lost my sight was unexpected. I just had to learn quickly to make up for it.

Still, she's not about to leave poor old blind grandpa to fend for himself in the wilderness, and asking for help has to be a huge sacrifice for anyone on Team Pride, so she approaches anyway.]
Sure. Want me to whip you up something? Or just tell you what the ingredients are? [THERE SHE EVEN GAVE HIM AN OUT ISN'T SHE NICE]
no subject
Just the ingredients will help. I haven't actually tried to cook since I lost my sight, so it's more difficult than I thought.
[ Break does fairly well without his sight, but this one is truly a challenge. He looks to his assortment of ingredients, though that's just an idle gesture as he tries to remember what he's grabbed so far. ]
...Something with pasta should be fine. That's fairly simple.
no subject
Hmm, too bad! Looks like you have the wrong ingredients for spaghetti! Guess you'll have to make something else! [LISTEN THIS HAS BEEN SEVEN WEEKS OF SPAGHETTI HELL FOR HER please make something else]
no subject
I didn't say spaghetti. Pasta is just fairly easy to make, even for me.

You know, I don't think I've ever asked. You don't eat this sort of food, do you?
[ THERE'S NO WAY... RIGHT... ]
no subject
Monster food's made of magic though, so it's a little different from human food. Must be why all the food here tastes weird! [YEAH THAT HAS TO BE IT...definitely nothing to do with the chef at all]
no subject
[ Now he Understands. Or so much as he ever will, at least. Because he doesn't understand how you can be that bad at cooking unless you're like, a nobleman, and Undyne doesn't exactly seem the type... ]
Well, what about an alfredo, then? Is that far enough away from spaghetti?

Want some cake? [She's not supposed to be sharing it with anyone, but. Break looks like he could be the exception to the rule.]
no subject
Please. I can't ever turn down sweets.
no subject
[Poland will locate the half eaten polish apple cake she has stashed in the kitchen and plate it for Break.]
It's my recipe. [That she was going to give to Gilbert next.] If you don't like it though I could make more popcorn balls. Or something else.
no subject
...Thank you for offering to read the letters, by the way.
no subject
[How silly of her to think that Gilbert wouldn't have spent time worrying about how he'd get a private and legible letter to Break in the event something happened to him!]
You're welcome though.

The pages you tore out... [ He definitely heard ] Were they more drawings?
no subject
[Poland props her head up with her hands, resting her elbows on the table.]
Urashima and his turtle together, then another one of Rhys... some lady.
They were really nice, I didn't realize he was artistic. I thought Urashima and Rhys would take care of them.

He has a surprising talent for it. It's not something he does often, but it fits his appearance, doesn't it?
[ He's got the Darcy look going on even if he's actually lame ]
