week 7 - trial; day 1

seven vices case 7 trial, day 1 ♫ saturday At 9AM, every television will go off, loud enough to wake anyone sleeping. The calm, apathetic voice will advise everyone to gather in the chapel for the trial. Static will continue to blare in the head of anyone dillydallying. Once all of the guests have gathered in the chapel, the doors will lock. Most of the pews have been moved aside to allow for more space, and a few tables have been set up on the altar. On the first, there is an additional copy of the rulebook, and the information cards of the victim and suspects laid out, with space for the suspects to provide their whereabouts, as well as an autopsy report. There is also a large wheeled chalkboard upon which you may write theories. On the second table is a pitcher of water and some glasses, as well as very simple sandwiches and pastries. The door behind the altar has finally been unlocked. It's a rather plain room with an area set off by a folding screen. Inside, you will find a table on which the victim's body has been laid out. Next to the table, two black and white photographs have been hung on the screen. they are close ups of the victim's body, as it was found when the body discovery announcement chimed. A few sticks of incense burn in the corner to avoid any smells. At 6PM, the trial will adjourn. Everyone will be escorted back to the hotel by Miata, after which everyone is allowed to head to either the kitchen to get dinner, or to their rooms. Says the guy who is listed as a suspect. So, what reason did you have for murdering your friends Hinata?

Hajime did not do this.

[His voice is firm. He is absolutely certain of this, apparently.]

I know that it will take time and evidence to prove this fact to everyone else, but in the meantime, do not say such spiteful things to him so carelessly.

[Hinata opens his mouth to say something incredibly rude in response, something about looking at evidence and maybe killers shouldn't point fingers, but Faize steps in. What a good dude.

Hinata just makes a strangled noise from his attempt at speaking and just nods. Thanks Faize.]

[She's silent for a moment, only because she kind of likes Faize.]

...One of those five people did it. Doesn't matter how you feel about them - one of them killed those two. Remember that.

Aaaaand it wasn't Hajime, so there's that. It could have been one of the girls.

Do you know it wasn't him? For sure?

That's my point. You're all getting attached - you can't say for certain yet. However, one of them certainly did it. That's how the game works, like it or not.

Considering I was sharing a bed with him? Yeah, I'd say I'm sure.

I'm not getting attached-- well, ok, I am, but that's not wrong to do? Being friends with people? But that's not the only reason that I know it wasn't Hajime, so don't go assumin' peeps are just bein' sentimental.

Except Alisha was in your room too and she managed to get out.

If you want to make friends here that's your call. Just be ready to kill those friends in these trials if it turns out they murdered someone.

[And really, people kill for so many reasons. She doesn't judge automatically.]

Alisha was in the other bed. I'll admit I fucked up there, I shoulda heard her leave but I didn't. And I'm gonna casually feel like shit about that forever. But it wouldn't take super hearing to notice someone physically leaving the bed, ok.

I think I agree with Hinata. If you're not going to be useful then stop talking. I don't think I want to listen to a murderer try and preach to us about the rules of this game.

[Look, even he's getting annoyed with this "let's just kill someone I don't like" crap. Especially from someone who's retired. Hardly any room to talk there really.]

I was a killer before I came here Bill. I'm only stating the facts - people need to remember what this is all about.

Alright, let me rephrase that. I don't think I want to listen to someone who let themselves get duped into playing this stupid game and then sacrificed someone else to live talk at all.

[ SHE HONESTLY THINKS HE'S TOO MUCH OF A WEENIE TO DO IT...???? Whoever did this has Problems of a variety Hinata just doesn't seem to have. ]

But anyway...this is kind of dumb. If you're going to say "let's vote for this person", back it up with a reason or shut up.

Well that depends how the head was taken off. [Though she appreciates judgment not based in emotion.] I wouldn't judge based on type though. I think all the suspects are perfectly nice people... Rhys aside. I'd rather see him die than anyone else on that list, killer or no.

Considering how beat up Gilbert was, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say there wasn't some fancy contraption for cutting off his head.

I could not possibly forget. However, rest assured, my reasons for believing in Hajime's innocence are not wholly based on emotion.

What reasons do you have then?

You saw his alibi, did you not? I was in his room as well. It was around four thirty when Alisha left, and Hajime was still asleep at that point. [He pauses, and there's an edge of guilt and self-loating to his tone when he continues.] Admittedly, I fell back asleep a few minutes after she left the room, but...I was not asleep so deeply that he would have been able to leave without my noticing.

And if not me, Roxy certainly would have noticed.

[lastgirl]

I saw it. However you can't say any of that for certain. [She sighs softly.] The fact that Alisha got out at all means neither you or Roxy were that aware of your surroundings in your state. I know that hurts to hear, but it's true.

...And I'm not accusing Hinata for the record. It's just that we can't absolutely say yet it wasn't him. Get it?

[His fist clenches slightly, the only sign he gives that, yes, it does kind of hurt to hear that.]

I know. As I said, I know that it will take time to convince the rest of you of Hajime's innocence. And you would all be correct in doing so, as writing someone off purely for emotional reasons solves nothing.

[But what he saw in the room that morning is apparently enough logical evidence for him, so he's put Hinata safely in the "Did Not Do The Thing" category for now.]

What I took issue with is the manner in which you spoke to him. Whether he disagreed with you or not, he does not deserve careless comments such as "so, what reason did you have for murdering your friends?"

[This....this is apparently what he took offense to. Incredible.]

All I ask is that you please be civil with him, and everyone else for that matter, [RHYS.] for the duration of this trial.
