At 9AM, every television will go off, loud enough to wake anyone sleeping. The calm, apathetic voice will advise everyone to gather in the chapel for the trial. Static will continue to blare in the head of anyone dillydallying.

Once all of the guests have gathered in the chapel, the doors will lock. Most of the pews have been moved aside to allow for more space, and a few tables have been set up on the altar. On the first, there is an additional copy of the rulebook, and the information cards of the victim and suspects laid out, with space for the suspects to provide their whereabouts, as well as an autopsy report. There is also a large wheeled chalkboard upon which you may write theories. On the second table is a pitcher of water and some glasses, as well as very simple sandwiches and pastries.

The door behind the altar has finally been unlocked. It's a rather plain room with an area set off by a folding screen. Inside, you will find a table on which the victim's body has been laid out. Next to the table, two black and white photographs have been hung on the screen. they are close ups of the victim's body, as it was found when the body discovery announcement chimed. A few sticks of incense burn in the corner to avoid any smells.

At 6PM, the trial will adjourn. Everyone will be escorted back to the hotel by Miata, after which everyone is allowed to head to either the kitchen to get dinner, or to their rooms. Attempting to wander off into the other areas of the hotel will trigger the static alarms in everyone's heads/televisions.

This might have been covered in the past, but... could you remind me? The "magic spells" listed on your profile... what are they, exactly?

[ Actually a good question. He will try his best to keep it simple in explanation. ]

They are artes employed by the usage of mana, which is a source of power or life force. I can use a few basic spells in particular. They can be from these elements: Fire, Wind, Water/or Ice, and Earth.

If you should like I could even give a demonstration of sorts.

[ He understands, however, the importance of such a thing. ]

[ He begins to make his way outside, expecting Hinata to follow him. ]

[He is absolutely following, presumably with some other people so as not to break the rules! One of whom is absolutely Faize, since he's literally grabbing hold of the elf's arm to drag him along. Symbology, magic, sameish thing, right?]

We need to explore all our possibilities. It's all I try to do every trial, you know that.

[ Dhaos doesn't think they're standing far away enough. He holds out his hand to unleash what was supposedly a simple fireball spell. A magical circle of sorts appeared as well on the ground, and a few large fireballs shot forth.

When they hit a bank of snow or whatever they incinerate it completely, leaving nothing left.

He may look a little tired after that, though. ]

[Okay see, no matter how much bizarre magic he sees in this town, some guy magically conjuring fireballs is still pretty startling! And it shows on Hinata's face as he stiffens to watch. Wtf...]

...How far can they travel? I mean, like... do they just keep traveling until they hit something?

They can travel pretty far, up until hitting something. I'd say a generous estimate of about 10 to 20 feet.

[ He raises a hand to rub his temples. ]

Anything else you would like to ask?

[Faize, meanwhile, sees this shit on a regular basis back home so he's completely unfazed by the demonstration.]

Yes, actually. Is the end result of the spell reliant upon how much or how little mana one uses?

It can be. That demonstration was used with the least amount of mana possible.

[ If he used more it could look similar to what happened when he used Selena's book with even fireballs, and at that point if the fire hit...well. ]

It is one of the most basic spells, so it was easy not to consume too much of it. Generally, I'm not going to wish to use too much mana either, even for something like this.

[Faize nods.]

I see. In that case, I believe it highly unlikely that Clover's burns were caused by your artes. While her hair or sleeve could have been the results of dodging, the one to her chest... [He shakes his head.] it would not have been just her coat that sustained damage, had she been hit with something like that.

[ The amount of relief to hear someone say that? Yeah, he's going to release a breath of sorts. ]

Correct. If anything, we can now surmise that someone did not use magic to cause those burns at all. Although how they did it would be the question at this point.

[ He is just glad they got this out of the way. He... gives Hinata a brief look, and nods his head. That is him being thankful.

He looks back at Faize. ]

I never bothered to count. However, it's not like I could use all of them whenever I wanted. You seem to know a good amount about magic.
