week 7 - trial; day 1
![]() ♫ saturday At 9AM, every television will go off, loud enough to wake anyone sleeping. The calm, apathetic voice will advise everyone to gather in the chapel for the trial. Static will continue to blare in the head of anyone dillydallying. Once all of the guests have gathered in the chapel, the doors will lock. Most of the pews have been moved aside to allow for more space, and a few tables have been set up on the altar. On the first, there is an additional copy of the rulebook, and the information cards of the victim and suspects laid out, with space for the suspects to provide their whereabouts, as well as an autopsy report. There is also a large wheeled chalkboard upon which you may write theories. On the second table is a pitcher of water and some glasses, as well as very simple sandwiches and pastries. The door behind the altar has finally been unlocked. It's a rather plain room with an area set off by a folding screen. Inside, you will find a table on which the victim's body has been laid out. Next to the table, two black and white photographs have been hung on the screen. they are close ups of the victim's body, as it was found when the body discovery announcement chimed. A few sticks of incense burn in the corner to avoid any smells. At 6PM, the trial will adjourn. Everyone will be escorted back to the hotel by Miata, after which everyone is allowed to head to either the kitchen to get dinner, or to their rooms. Attempting to wander off into the other areas of the hotel will trigger the static alarms in everyone's heads/televisions. >Discuss? setting rulebook |

( He wants to find Alisha and Gilbert's killer but they're dead. The only way he can help them is to find their killer and they have all day to do that as far as he's concerned. As far as he's concerned, Inaba is alive right now so he'll focus on her right now. )
And they matter to me too.

[ She can't help but look with curious eyes, tilting her head to the side. ]
Why? [ It's one word, but it's a loaded question, filled with expectations. ]

Because I want to protect you too.
( He hasn't been doing a very good job lately, though, he feels like and his eyes shift away some just because he's hoping she won't see him starting to tear up, )
And I don't want you to just be safe; I want you to be happy too.

[ Her voice is cracking, and if she notices him starting to tear, she doesn't seem to say anything about it. ]
Not protection or happiness.

( There's a sniff, and he wipes away at his eyes again, shaking his head once like he isn't going to cry right now, not here... And he exhales one, shaking breath before he gives her a small smile. It's a little forced, just a little bit sad still, but it's real. )
... Someone important told me that.

Then I should throw all of those away, too. I don't need them. Because all I ever see is pain. Over and over again. In the past, the present, and the future. It's the reason why I hate being analytical.
I can see scenarios, but... none of them are good. I'm weak. Hopelessly weak. [ She scoffs, just a little. ] I guess my weakness just goes to show how fitting I really am for my name.

( He means it and while he sounds as gentle as ever, there's a warning edge to his voice, )
Have I mentioned I'm in an army back home? We're fighting a very important war and... many will die and that's our burden as the living.
And even if it hurts and makes us sad, we have to take everything we feel to heart and not for granted because it's the pain we feel right here ( --he raises a hand to his chest-- ) that separates us from those that can't feel compassion or reason. So don't give up and give in.
You might think it's weak but I think your name is beautiful and strong. So live up to it, "Himeko." Just like Alisha did.

[ Ugh, she's going to cry again, she hates this so much. Raising her arm to wipe her eyes so that he doesn't see, all she can do is shake her head. When she looks at him, it's with a smile. It's a very sad one, though. ]
I haven't given up, it's just that-- even if the deaths are painful. Even if the trials are brutal. Even if we fail at finding the culprit. And even if it all ends. I still won't be happy, you know? Or rather... maybe it's just fake happiness what I'll get.

( Is there something really preventing Inaba from being happy? He wants to know... )
no subject
Mm, it's not important, and we don't have the time.
