week 7 - trial; day 1
![]() ♫ saturday At 9AM, every television will go off, loud enough to wake anyone sleeping. The calm, apathetic voice will advise everyone to gather in the chapel for the trial. Static will continue to blare in the head of anyone dillydallying. Once all of the guests have gathered in the chapel, the doors will lock. Most of the pews have been moved aside to allow for more space, and a few tables have been set up on the altar. On the first, there is an additional copy of the rulebook, and the information cards of the victim and suspects laid out, with space for the suspects to provide their whereabouts, as well as an autopsy report. There is also a large wheeled chalkboard upon which you may write theories. On the second table is a pitcher of water and some glasses, as well as very simple sandwiches and pastries. The door behind the altar has finally been unlocked. It's a rather plain room with an area set off by a folding screen. Inside, you will find a table on which the victim's body has been laid out. Next to the table, two black and white photographs have been hung on the screen. they are close ups of the victim's body, as it was found when the body discovery announcement chimed. A few sticks of incense burn in the corner to avoid any smells. At 6PM, the trial will adjourn. Everyone will be escorted back to the hotel by Miata, after which everyone is allowed to head to either the kitchen to get dinner, or to their rooms. Attempting to wander off into the other areas of the hotel will trigger the static alarms in everyone's heads/televisions. >Discuss? setting rulebook |

also he didn't name dumpy! it just sort of... stuck. he would've named him something cool if he did. don't blame rhys for this.
in fact, rhys is going to open his mouth to say maybe don't address dumpy because --
UNHOLY SCREAMS OF ROBOT TERROR here and rhys just puts his face in his hand. ]
Dumpy, maybe you... just shouldn't talk tonight.
[ more confused screaming in reply. ]

While he doesn't go grasping for his ears, Ranulf does tense up completely, take shallower breaths, and and close his eyes. That's so very not a good sound. After a couple of seconds, he tries his best to ignore the screeching.
He only half-catches what Rhys just said. ]
It's all right, it could be worse. [ He tries to wave off his discomfort. ] Anyway, I take it there's not much else you can tell me about... [ He hesitates. ] Dumpy.
But maybe you can tell me about the stun baton you left behind. I've never heard of something like it before.

but rhys actually didn't really say that because he thought ranulf was in pain. he's just embarrassed that dumpy's so loud. are you in pain, ranulf?? maybe rhys should have remembered that you're a cat with sensitive hearing. haha... empathy for other people... hah!!!
but rhys just shrugs at the statement. ]
Dumpy's... Dumpy. Nothing else important, no.
[ but as for the baton -- ]
It's something for self-defense. A long metal stick that shocks people when I hit them with it. I just have it to protect myself from bandits since I don't really use guns.
no subject
but no dumpy sounds like deathHiding pain is way easier than showing it. Maybe it's a laguz thing. ]
That almost sounds like a tome. [ Except in stick form. A stick tome. ... That sounds really. Something. It sounds something. ] Guns... that's not a familiar term to me either, but I'll assume it's some kind of weapon.
Oh. That said, I do know about bandits, at least. We have them, and pirates, where I'm from too. They can be really nasty in large numbers, that baton of yours must be impressive if you use it against them.

A ... tome? [ wait, he doesn't really want to know. ] But yeah, they're both weapons. The baton and the gun.
[ and rhys just nods at ranulf's statement, confirming it. ]
Yeah. I mostly use it to get away from fights, if I'm honest, but it's definitely one of the better things Hyperion's ever made! Way, way, super cool.
[ did you know that the word hyperion is on his stupid vest, ranulf? the one that he is wearing right now? there may be a bit of company pride there, yeah. ]
