week 7 - trial; day 1

seven vices case 7 trial, day 1

saturday

At 9AM, every television will go off, loud enough to wake anyone sleeping. The calm, apathetic voice will advise everyone to gather in the chapel for the trial. Static will continue to blare in the head of anyone dillydallying.

Once all of the guests have gathered in the chapel, the doors will lock. Most of the pews have been moved aside to allow for more space, and a few tables have been set up on the altar. On the first, there is an additional copy of the rulebook, and the information cards of the victim and suspects laid out, with space for the suspects to provide their whereabouts, as well as an autopsy report. There is also a large wheeled chalkboard upon which you may write theories. On the second table is a pitcher of water and some glasses, as well as very simple sandwiches and pastries.

The door behind the altar has finally been unlocked. It's a rather plain room with an area set off by a folding screen. Inside, you will find a table on which the victim's body has been laid out. Next to the table, two black and white photographs have been hung on the screen. they are close ups of the victim's body, as it was found when the body discovery announcement chimed. A few sticks of incense burn in the corner to avoid any smells.

At 6PM, the trial will adjourn. Everyone will be escorted back to the hotel by Miata, after which everyone is allowed to head to either the kitchen to get dinner, or to their rooms. Attempting to wander off into the other areas of the hotel will trigger the static alarms in everyone's heads/televisions.

[ He nods in agreement ]

It's possible that Gilbert may have come to help Alisha too, considering he wasn't burnt, correct? He may have been attempting to assist her, but ran into our killer.
brawlhalla: (BRO ► plz find ur chill.)

[personal profile] brawlhalla 2016-04-02 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe? Some of his teeth were in the lobby, I guess? ...I think they were his teeth? Alisha doesn't seem to have been beat up so much as...burnt and drowned.

[ So, it makes sense unless the killer is missing teeth. ]

Which means the fight might have taken place in there or even moving around - but why the Hel did they cut off his head and dump it in an entirely different place? His murder seems way more...

[ vague hand gestures she then realizes WON'T HELP THE BLIND GUY ]

...brutal?
crazily: (listen here you motherfucker)

[personal profile] crazily 2016-04-02 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He nods, though his expression shifts to be a more difficult one. ]

As unfortunate as it is to think about, he could have been trying to run away. That would explain why the scene is so... wide.

[ Break smiles, but it's definitely a pained one. ]

For his head, I can't guess at that yet, I'm afraid. My immediate guess is to say simply as a mockery, because setting the head on that spinning thing is more than simply brutal.
brawlhalla: (RUDE ► tbh. go away!)

[personal profile] brawlhalla 2016-04-02 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait, what spinning thing?

[ lithuania tried to explain records to astrid but all she got from that was "there's music on them and it works...somehow" because honestly all this tech confuses the shit out of her ]
crazily: (let me guess)

[personal profile] crazily 2016-04-02 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
A record player. It plays music.

[ He shrugs, since he's not going to mention that it was also playing music. He'll just get angry... ]

It works by spinning a disc around, and he was set there.
brawlhalla: (DISAGREE ► blue.)

[personal profile] brawlhalla 2016-04-02 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Lithuania said that, I just...didn't realize they spun?

[ ?????? WHY IS THE SPINNING REQUIRED? SQUINTS. ]

...But, o...kay. That's...a thing someone sure did.

[ She sounds highly dubious because what the fuck. ]
crazily: (ARE YOU NOT ENTERTOODLE-DOO?)

[personal profile] crazily 2016-04-02 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He nods ]

And now you see why I believe "mockery" is reason enough, yes? That detail changes things a bit rather than just setting it somewhere.

It seems like the whole...Gilbert murder was more personal than the Alisha murder, then.

[ Why bother with the personal touches, otherwise? ]
crazily: (bro do you even shiv)

[personal profile] crazily 2016-04-02 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He lets out a low and short sound. ]

So it would seem. But of our suspects, it's also difficult for me to imagine any of them having that sort of grudge against Gilbert.
brawlhalla: (GESTURE ► there it is.)

[personal profile] brawlhalla 2016-04-02 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I think "they're insane" is a good second option.
crazily: (my relationship with netflix)

[personal profile] crazily 2016-04-02 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[ That gets him to laugh, though it's tired and humorless. ]

Fair enough. But "they're insane" is also an unfortunate one, since that makes it difficult to guess who, hm~? So perhaps returning to our sins would be better.

[ another shrug ]

With our suspects, this would make the murder one of pride, envy, greed or sloth, correct?
brawlhalla: (EYEBALL ► with an axe.)

[personal profile] brawlhalla 2016-04-02 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Undyne and I are pride, Hinata's envy, Sadie's sloth, and Rhys is greed. I'm...not sure what the Hel this murder demands most.

[ why isn't crazy a sin. ]
crazily: (practiced with someone else's hands)

[personal profile] crazily 2016-04-02 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Mm, well... I imagine I could guess at a rationale for each, but I'll save that until we have some better ideas. To give everyone a motive to correspond with their sin doesn't help, does it~?
brawlhalla: (LOOK ► this isn't actually hard.)

[personal profile] brawlhalla 2016-04-02 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's usually more helpful at the end when we're trying to pick between whoever we've narrowed it down to?

[ So, they can...not ignore it for now, but. Put a pin in it, she guesses. ]
crazily: (this is poetic)

[personal profile] crazily 2016-04-02 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Then I'll keep my guesses to myself for now so that we don't muddle things too badly. Once we get down to two like we usually do, though, I'll bring it up again.

[ A pause, and then he adds: ] A shame wrath isn't included. That would make it much simpler, wouldn't it?
brawlhalla: (FRET ► plz stop being dumb.)

[personal profile] brawlhalla 2016-04-02 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm never good at the sin part, so I'll be...well, not looking forward to it, but I'll listen when you do.

[ She snorts, but nods. ]

Yeah, someone was clearly mis-sorted.
crazily: (what raid do I do to get these to drop?)

[personal profile] crazily 2016-04-02 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He nods in agreement, but then again, you can totally be two sins...!! Because man, he would definitely be pride and wrath if you got two. But. He won't say that, since that does sound a bit accusatory. ]

Though on the subject of the brutality, it never really works, but I feel I should also suggest that we check our suspects for wounds. It would be a surprise for someone to walk away unscathed, but I admit that I do not have much hope that it would be that easy.
brawlhalla: (WELP ► that's a thing.)

[personal profile] brawlhalla 2016-04-02 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm fine with a strip search.

[ She's made people agree to do it before, she's not going to argue now that it's her turn. A shrug. ]

Though we should find someone not-you to run it.

[ blind guy in charge of strip searches... ]
crazily: (you had one job)

[personal profile] crazily 2016-04-02 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He laughs, but he nods in agreement. ]

Yes, I'd agree with that. I'm utterly useless in that respect, since I wouldn't exactly even notice a black eye.
