week 4 - trial; day 1
![]() ♫ saturday At 9AM, every television will go off, loud enough to wake anyone sleeping. The calm, apathetic voice will advise everyone to gather in the chapel for the trial. Static will continue to blare in the head of anyone dillydallying. Once all of the guests have gathered in the chapel, the doors will lock. Most of the pews have been moved aside to allow for more space, and a few tables have been set up on the altar. On the first, there is an additional copy of the rulebook, and the information cards of the victim and suspects laid out, with space for the suspects to provide their whereabouts, as well as an autopsy report. There is also a large wheeled chalkboard upon which you may write theories. On the second table is a pitcher of water and some glasses, as well as very simple sandwiches and pastries. The door behind the altar has finally been unlocked. It's a rather plain room with an area set off by a folding screen. Inside, you will find a table on which the victim's body has been laid out. Next to the table, two black and white photographs have been hung on the screen. they are close ups of the victim's body, as it was found when the body discovery announcement chimed. A few sticks of incense burn in the corner to avoid any smells. At 6PM, the trial will adjourn. Everyone will be escorted back to the hotel by Miata, after which everyone is allowed to head to either the kitchen to get dinner, or to their rooms. Attempting to wander off into the other areas of the hotel will trigger the static alarms in everyone's heads/televisions. >Discuss? setting rulebook |

[ Break rubs at his face idly, like he's tired, though that's not quite it. Considering it's the left side of his face, it's probably something more like easing out the tension that comes with the memory of just why that socket is empty. ]
Well, whatever. It's not as if my word on the matter carries any weight at the moment. It's unpleasant, but I'll manage.
no subject
I'll just— have to see if my word holds any more weight, then. If that cat is going to throw his around, I'll do the same. [He's still 100% asschafed about Cheshire's "announcement"...]
...Speaking of - after this week, you're staying in my room on Thursdays. Not that I think this "buddy system" really helps... [EVERYONE ELSE HAS A BUDDY AND LOOK WHERE THEY ARE.] ...But it would be for peace of mind.
no subject
Well, I can hardly disagree with that now, can I? Though I suppose it's fitting that my pride would get me in this sort of mess just because of one small thing.
[ He pauses, then sighs. ]
...But I really don't tend to sleep much. It's likely to inconvenience you, as a fair warning.
no subject
That's fine. I'd rather be inconvenienced than not be able to provide a more solid alibi.
[He doesn't sleep much anyway, so it's not like Break will be stealing tons of hours of rest from him...]
no subject
[ He laughs, then waves a hand slightly dismissively. ]
Now you have it. It only took ten years, but there you go~.
no subject
But Gilbert already knew he more or less had earned Break's trust, gosh! Hearing it said aloud in such plain terms is just embarrassing. ...Even though he's also undoubtedly grateful for it.]
...I'll do my best, then.
[To be worthy of that trust!!]
no subject
Well, I may not be able to see it, but I can still guess you have a stupid expression on your face right now~. You youngsters these days are touched by the strangest things. ♥
no subject
There's nothing strange about it! ...And my expression isn't stupid!!
no subject
[ Leave it to Break to ruin such moments, because let's be real, he's a barely functional human being. ]
no subject
I'm sure—! Dammit, Break, I was trying to be serious! [NOW HE'S JUST TIRED.]
1/2
[ Break says this so sarcastically, because he's intentionally being a shit. Unsurprising! This is one way he deals with stress, and the other seems to be not sleeping and coughing up blood, so all things considered, this one is probably better. ]
no subject
...But, if I'm honest, it's because I don't want to take it too seriously. I know I can't outrun death forever, but taking it too seriously feels a little too much like accepting it.
[ And he doesn't exactly mean the trial in this case. ]
I can't die just yet, so I can't accept it.
no subject
But hearing that makes sense - or rather, it explains why Break is being so Break even while on the chopping block. He won't begrudge him that comfort then, so he just sighs and cards a hand through his hair.]
All right. [He gets it.] ...How much longer do you plan on staying down here?
no subject
Well, probably not too much longer. How late is it, exactly?
no subject
It's— [Leaning back to check the clock.] -A little after one in the morning.
no subject
[ He's more or less only able to tell the time based on peoples' habits in the hotel, so when it gets to night, he truly loses track. He clicks his tongue idly, then shrugs. ]
Then yes, as soon as I finish this cup. [ Which is conveniently almost done. ] I doubt I'll sleep, but I may as well lay down for a while, I suppose. I'll probably be standing all day tomorrow, and without my cane, that will be rather tiring~.
no subject
No one will think less of you if you need to sit down, Break.
[ie PLEASE DON'T DIE JUST BECAUSE YOU WERE TOO STUBBORN TO REST... All of his work would be in vain then, okay...]
no subject
Well, I'll sit if I need to~.
[ aka you're going to have to make him ]
no subject
Good. [Huffs... But he'll lapse into silence after that, leaning back in his chair.]
I'll be holding onto your cane until tomorrow evening, but if I find anything that might work as a substitute, I'll bring you that, too.
no subject
[ Have waves his hand dismissively. ]
I'm not so frail that I'll simply pass out from standing all day, you know.
[ (unsure) ]
