week 4 - trial; day 1
![]() ♫ saturday At 9AM, every television will go off, loud enough to wake anyone sleeping. The calm, apathetic voice will advise everyone to gather in the chapel for the trial. Static will continue to blare in the head of anyone dillydallying. Once all of the guests have gathered in the chapel, the doors will lock. Most of the pews have been moved aside to allow for more space, and a few tables have been set up on the altar. On the first, there is an additional copy of the rulebook, and the information cards of the victim and suspects laid out, with space for the suspects to provide their whereabouts, as well as an autopsy report. There is also a large wheeled chalkboard upon which you may write theories. On the second table is a pitcher of water and some glasses, as well as very simple sandwiches and pastries. The door behind the altar has finally been unlocked. It's a rather plain room with an area set off by a folding screen. Inside, you will find a table on which the victim's body has been laid out. Next to the table, two black and white photographs have been hung on the screen. they are close ups of the victim's body, as it was found when the body discovery announcement chimed. A few sticks of incense burn in the corner to avoid any smells. At 6PM, the trial will adjourn. Everyone will be escorted back to the hotel by Miata, after which everyone is allowed to head to either the kitchen to get dinner, or to their rooms. Attempting to wander off into the other areas of the hotel will trigger the static alarms in everyone's heads/televisions. >Discuss? setting rulebook |

[ This other Team Pride member DISAPPROVES. ]

...You know, when you say things like that, you remind me of someone I know.
[ Break takes a sip of his tea, and it might seem like that's all he's going to say at first, but he's really just thinking it over. He's not exactly one for sharing anything close to feelings, so he has to dance around it as best he can. Because he's a stubborn old man. But he at least does manage something. ]
I'm worried, of course. It's nothing more than that.
no subject
Then allow me to reassure you. [ Wow she sure said that confidently. ] I won't be voting for you, Sir Break.
no subject
I'm— [ Not sure what to say, to be honest. ] Well, I'm not complaining, mind you, but... Why, if I may ask?
no subject
... I do intend to find the true culprit tomorrow. I don't want another loss like Lady Morrigan's.
no subject
...Thank you.
[ Those words are quite sincere, and after he says it, he sighs and bows forward lightly to rest his head in his hand. The exhaustion is easy to read from his posture, but his tone is still focused. ]
I certainly wish that I didn't know it with such certainty, but there's no future in a changed past. It's... not something I enjoy talking about, obviously. Perhaps I should, but relaying that story seems like it would do little good anyways.

[ Let's not bully Break into talking about his trauma, guys. She does firmly believe that he was being sincere when he'd talked about the motive before... so then it's just a matter of figuring out who had caved. ]

I hope so, at least. I would share if I felt it was helpful, mind you, but as no one will take my word that I would not take it, explaining further serves no real purpose.
[ Break sits up straight again, but it's to sigh in a way that seems to be expressed through his whole body. ]
I'm too old for this, you know~. It's very stressful.
no subject
[ You're not safe yet, sir. ]
no subject
[ He laughs, but he'll also be drinking his tea very slowly now... You can't make him go to bed!! ]
But fine, I will~. Or I'll at least try.

[ SPARKLE. ]
no subject
Er... That's not necessary. I wouldn't want to keep you up...
no subject
It's no trouble. I'd feel worse not knowing how long you stayed up...
no subject
That's— [ He sighs, then shakes his head. ] How late is it anyways?
no subject
Well, it was just after midnight when I came downstairs... and we've been here for a while.
no subject
[ Though granted, Break also wakes up at 5AM or earlier every day without fail. ]
Then in that case, I do apologize for keeping you up. You shouldn't have to worry about looking after me.
no subject
no subject
...Have you?
no subject
Yes. Whatever you've gone through that would make you feel so strongly about this motive... I'm sorry it happened, but I'm glad to know this wouldn't shake your resolve.

[ That's actually quite a bit kinder than he had been expecting, so he smiles again in a warmer, softer way. He bows his head lightly, but he doesn't actually say anything at first. It actually feels far too kind for him, but he at least knows better by now than to reject such kind sentiments. It's still tempting, since he doesn't feel he deserves them, but he's at least learned the importance of carrying peoples' feelings with him. He'll never forget that small little lesson that Shelly passed to him, even if it's difficult for him to actually act on it. ]
That is... very kind of you. I will at least do my best to be certain that such a sentiment is not wasted, Miss Alisha.

The best way you could thank me is to help me find who is truly behind this... on my own, I fear it may be more difficult. [ She offers him a smile of her own-- if nothing else, he ought to hear it in her tone. She's been called naive, idealistic, soft, whiny... really, she probably believes in people more than she ought to, even though she's been betrayed before. More than once.
But truly, that's just how she is. ]

[ But this actually does seem to have a positive effect on Break, perhaps oddly enough. He smiles more cheerfully, but it doesn't quite seem like a mask for something else. He picks up his tea and takes more than just a small sip this time, since it's a quiet way to show that he'll at least go to bed soon. ]
Mm, then I'll do that. I can't let such kind words go to waste, now can I~?

[ And Faize's and Urashima's and Undyne's. She doesn't know Vegeta as well. ]
