week 4 - trial; day 1

seven vices case 4 trial, day 1 ♫ saturday At 9AM, every television will go off, loud enough to wake anyone sleeping. The calm, apathetic voice will advise everyone to gather in the chapel for the trial. Static will continue to blare in the head of anyone dillydallying. Once all of the guests have gathered in the chapel, the doors will lock. Most of the pews have been moved aside to allow for more space, and a few tables have been set up on the altar. On the first, there is an additional copy of the rulebook, and the information cards of the victim and suspects laid out, with space for the suspects to provide their whereabouts, as well as an autopsy report. There is also a large wheeled chalkboard upon which you may write theories. On the second table is a pitcher of water and some glasses, as well as very simple sandwiches and pastries. The door behind the altar has finally been unlocked. It's a rather plain room with an area set off by a folding screen. Inside, you will find a table on which the victim's body has been laid out. Next to the table, two black and white photographs have been hung on the screen. they are close ups of the victim's body, as it was found when the body discovery announcement chimed. A few sticks of incense burn in the corner to avoid any smells. At 6PM, the trial will adjourn. Everyone will be escorted back to the hotel by Miata, after which everyone is allowed to head to either the kitchen to get dinner, or to their rooms. Attempting to wander off into the other areas of the hotel will trigger the static alarms in everyone's heads/televisions. >Discuss? victim   suspects      cast setting rulebook

Why not have Dhaos test it out? If he can't do it, the others probably can't either.

[ Let us say, then they go outside and Dhaos heads outside with the book. He attempts to use it and see if anything happens. ]

[ It works for him, unleashing a big ol' fireball at wherever he happens to be pointing. Lucky there's snow everywhere. ]

[ Not... really. He doesn't seem all that happy to be near the fire at all. In fact, he's standing as far from Dhaos as he can get away with. ]

Maybe? [ In terms of magic power and being showy, yeah. It's impressive! ] But seeing the spell isn't that unusual for me. I've seen it many times before, so I've gotten used to how flashy it is. [ Also, he's had it used on him before. Bad memories...

Bad fire. ]

It's too bad this is the only tome here. You'd get a real kick out of meteor.

[ .........and because I'm a derp I forgot to mention that the number on the back changes to 12, too. ]

Every tome has a limited number of uses.

If I remember right, you can use Elfire 35 times. [ Unless Selena's tome is different which it probably is. ] It might say somewhere in or on the book. Why don't you take another look?

I don't suppose we'll know how many uses it had when she arrived...

Sorry, I can't say. We'd only know that if she wrote it down somewhere or told someone.

There's really no telling how many times she's used it over the last few weeks.

I don't think she would have used it over the last few weeks, actually. The first time we ever talked, she told me she couldn't really demonstrate the anima magic or whatever because she wanted to save it - but if we ever met any enemies, I might get a chance to see it in action.

So, I don't think she'd have used it for anything frivolous...the battle the other day was probably the first time.

TOME TEST #2

[ He takes another look in the book. Does it say so how many times it can be used? ]

[ There's no other numbers of the sort anywhere in the tome. ]

So you can use it.

[ Well... Hm. ] I still think it's likely Selena used it, not someone else but...

We should keep this in mind.

Perhaps those with the capacity to utilize magic can use it? It is hard to tell for sure.

Regardless, I will keep it in mind...although I do think the same as you regarding her usage of it.
