seven vices arrival

saturday & sunday

36 players remaining

You remember happening upon something awful and nauseating. What it was, precisely, is lost to you, but you have the instinctive feeling that by escaping from it, you've avoided something terrible.

When you open your eyes, you find yourself laying in bed in a dark, dusty room, facing a digital alarm clock. Its face, reading 12:01, is one of the only sources of light in the room. The other comes from the window, shadows flickering about. Opening the blinds will reveal that it is nighttime, and what looks to be a massive bonfire has been lit in the street at the front of the building.

A wooden talisman hangs around your neck, with one of seven symbols carved on the back. Attempting to take off the talisman will result in a wave of intense dread, and the all-too-familiar nausea. A brass key engraved with a unique room number lays on the bedside table beside the clock, as well.

But you won't get any answers just sitting in your room all night.

>Investigate?

This is an open mingle for arrival in the town. Waking up just after midnight on Saturday, characters will have the weekend to explore and socialize before the plot begins. The profiles and IC rulebooks (both the personal ones and the public one at the chapel) have not been revealed/given out yet. The kitchen will still 'prepare' breakfast on these days, and the bonfire will burn continuously into the daytime.

Per items: smaller items that a character could easily carry with them will be in their rooms. Animals and larger objects will either be waiting outside or in the hotel lobby.

[INCREDIBLE. Today is a historical day - the day in which Gilbert Nightray found a person even more paranoid than he is...

This random judgmental beanpole was definitely judging before, though, that much he totally wasn't imagining. In fact, he's doing it again! Right now!!]

I don't think this is a case of being sold... Probably. [PROBABLY. Well, he is a duke. He would probably sell for a lot of money??

That sure doesn't explain Break, though.]

[ welcome to borderlands universe level capitalism, gilbert! everyone betrays everyone for the sake of sweet, sweet cash monies.

... !!! all this judging. rhys is really not okay with all this judging. you don't know his life! actually, if you did, you'd probably judge him more! please don't know his life. ]

Yeah, what makes you say that? We're hot commodities, right? Attractive, young gentleman. Living large and doing... things. I mean, you even have all your parts!

[ rhys doesn't have all his parts. he has a robot eye and a robot arm and probably more robot things under his clothes, who knows! the boy is down with the cybernetics. ]

We're totally slaves now.
stupidly: (someone left a punk here)

[All that paranoia actually comes from a legit place, incredible... Where was he in 999 when they needed him??

The judging sure doesn't seem like it's going to-- No, actually, it kind of does. Mostly because he's instead moving on to being disgruntled by how COMPLETELY SET this guy is on his kinda-crazy theory. (Hilarious that in another 48 or so hours they'll both probably be like shit I wish we had been sold instead of this tomfoolery.)]

I just think if it was something like that, there would be less... [WAVING A HAND AROUND vaguely.] ...Well, that things would be more normal? Normal for a kidnapping, anyway.

[Says Gilbert, as though he's had plenty of experience with kidnappings. Ah, the wild life of nobles.]

[ probably getting himself shot! don't worry, gil. no one needs rhys for anything.

anyway, don't judge rhys' crackpot theories! he knows what he's doing! maybe. but also, rhys might be relieved they're not slaves and just being forced to murder because that's kind of how you get a promotion at hyperion. that's how rhys got his, at least! hey-o, being a corporate stooge.

either way, rhys just squints at gilbert. ]

How... many times have you been kidnapped? Because let me tell you, my man, I have been kidnapped and held at gun point quiiiite a few times as of late! So I thiiink I know a lil' something about being held hostage. Just a little!

[ if rhys had suspenders, he would be snapping them in smugness right about now. ]

... Which, actually, we probably are just hostages. That's, uhm, not really cool. Usually I have a friend with me when I'm being held hostage.

[ he actually looks kind of sad now. ]
stupidly: (nah)

[personal profile] stupidly 2016-02-07 10:46 am (UTC)(link)
[Rhys, that's sad...

Actually, all of this is sad?! Why is he talking about being kidnapped like it's a thing that he's proud of being knowledgeable about. Rhys, why. That seems to be the theme motto of this conversation.]

Er— Not that many. [Probably. If he's remembering correctly. Oz has had more attempts on him, but Gilbert's definitely had his fair share, even if his brand of being kidnapped apparently involves ritualistic cult-y things and not being held at gun point.]

...If you want to look for your friends, I'm heading downstairs again soon. [Safety in numbers and all that!!]

[personal profile] jackhole 2016-02-07 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[ look, sometimes you just gotta know what type of kidnappers you have. do you have the kidnappers that are mad at their moms? or the kidnapper that is your mom? it's all a mystery and rhys has been on both sides of the mom kidnapper coin. ]

Oh, you're leaving? Uhm.

[ this entire conversation has taken place with rhys hiding behind a door, amazing. that means he ducks out and closes his room behind him to follow after gilbert. ]

I'm Rhys, by the way.

[ casually acts like he wasn't a douche this entire conversation?? okay. ]
stupidly: (what a weird guy)

[personal profile] stupidly 2016-02-07 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[Gilbert is used to people like this, if nothing else... HE CAN DEAL. He can deal. There are worse out there... There are worse on his own team?!

So he'll just wait for this guy to come out of his metaphoric shell and his literal room, and sets off for the stairs.]

Rhys... [A nod, which is basically his substitute for a "nice to meet you".] Do you mind if I see yours? [Pointing at the pendant!] Someone told me they've seen four different symbols so far.
jackhole: (pic#9981100)

[personal profile] jackhole 2016-02-08 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[ YEAH, GIL. RHYS IS NOWHERE NEAR AS BAD AS BREAK. so!!!

but oh right. the pendant. rhys just glances down at it with a frown before stopping and holding it out for gilbert to take a look. have a nice little greed symbol there, gil. ]

Do you know what they mean? I tried to take mine off earlier but it made me kind of... sick? Which I have a feeling that's kind of the point.
stupidly: (why happen)

[personal profile] stupidly 2016-02-08 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh— That's a new one.

[Gilbert holds his out in turn, showing off his little badge of envy. GOOD LUCK, TEAM.]

I don't know the answer to that, though. No one else has mentioned knowing anything about these symbols, either... But they make everyone feel sick when someone attempts to remove them.
jackhole: (pic#9981029)

[personal profile] jackhole 2016-02-08 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
What? What do you mean "new one"? It's not new.

[ wait. ]

I mean, just show me yours.

[ holding out his hand to see gilbert's pendant. give it here! before rhys loses his mind completely. ]

They're probably some kind of identifier, right? Who gets sold to who -- if we're running with the slave thing. Which I still totally am, just FYI.
stupidly: (SWIPER NO SWIPING)

[personal profile] stupidly 2016-02-09 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
[RHYS WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS. But Gilbert will hold it out as best he can without taking it off his neck because nah, he's not playing that game again...]

What does that mean... [FYI?! Stop speaking in future tongues.] Er— It does seem to be some kind of identification system, though. [Nodding! Yes, yes. Hopefully not one that'll determine who goes to which kidnapper's client.] I don't know how many different ones there are yet, but it's hard to tell without knowing how many people are here in general...
jackhole: (pic#9981113)

[personal profile] jackhole 2016-02-09 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
[ because why not. still, rhys will be nice enough to not take it off and instead just inspects the marking. ]

Huh. Weird.

[ and then he lets it go. he's not super into these new accessories, personally. not robotic enough. ]

... What does what mean?

[ genuinely not getting that you are an old fart here, gilbert. rhys is from the year 2870. leave him alone. ]

Seems like a few. I mean, this is what -- a hotel? An apartment building? If there's at least one person in every room on every floor, just count the number of rooms. I think we're on the third floor since mine's 312 and it's --

[ rhys looks up and down the hallway, some quick math in his head and voila. ]

In this building, thirty-six people, give or take. Twelve rooms on this floor, probably matches below. It looked like we were on the top floor when I looked out the window, so... thirty-six. Do you think there's another building for housing here? It didn't look like it.

[ shrugs??? ]
