week 1 - trial; day 1

seven vices case 1 trial, day 1 ♫ saturday At 9AM, every television will go off, loud enough to wake anyone sleeping. The calm, apathetic voice will advise everyone to gather in the chapel for the trial. Static will continue to blare in the head of anyone dillydallying. Once all of the guests have gathered in the chapel, the doors will lock. Most of the pews have been moved aside to allow for more space, and a few tables have been set up on the altar. On the first, there is an additional copy of the rulebook, and the information cards of the victim and suspects laid out, with space for the suspects to provide their whereabouts, as well as an autopsy report. There is also a large wheeled chalkboard upon which you may write theories. On the second table is a pitcher of water and some glasses, as well as very simple sandwiches and pastries. The door behind the altar has finally been unlocked. It's a rather plain room with an area set off by a folding screen. Inside, you will find a table on which the victim's body has been laid out. Next to the table, two black and white photographs have been hung on the screen. they are close ups of the victim's body, as it was found when the body discovery announcement chimed. A few sticks of incense burn in the corner to avoid any smells. At 6PM, the trial will adjourn. Everyone will be escorted back to the hotel by Miata, after which everyone is allowed to head to either the kitchen to get dinner, or to their rooms. Attempting to wander off into the other areas of the hotel will trigger the static alarms in everyone's heads/televisions. >Discuss? victim suspects         cast setting rulebook

Well, it's not terribly pertinent to the trial at hand, but...there's something here I don't think you all know about the seven sins yet.

Not all of us represent sins, Rhys. Miata told me herself. I represent "charity". Someone with the trait of sloth might actually have a corresponding virtue instead. She said that for some of us, she had to go in the opposite direction because we aren't sinful.

Well that doesn't mean these three are Diligence! Or that a Diligent person can't be bugged by time slowing down either. Actually, that could work more against them in that case, if you think about it.

I just think it's something to consider if we're going to seriously look at their sins, don't you? I don't want anyone making a misstep in this trial.

Maybe, but angels are just as weak to corruption as demons are. Nothing's too pure to be affected by things like this, no matter how closely they relate to those "Heavenly" virtues.

I'm gonna be smart and keep this in mind. Makes it easier to avoid being manipulated by motives aimed at "Lustful" or "Chast" people.

If we're going by virtues, then the one for sloth is "diligence". But maybe we should ask the ones in question.

Can you tell me what the other virtues are, Miss? I'm afraid we don't have them in our world, at least not defined as being part of a big, nasty seven and their opposing good traits.

Chastity goes with lust, temperance goes with gluttony, charity goes with greed, forgiveness goes with wrath, kindness goes with envy and humility with pride.

You don't have to thank me -- if I didn't say it, I'm certain one of the others would have.

[ She throws a bitter smile, but it's one nevertheless. ]

He was a good person and still had a full life... with a lot of people he cared about so we should do our best for him.

Uh-huh, right. They'd still be labeled Sloth anyway though. Just like you're labeled Greed. Still, good to know, I guess.

Right! But in the future, if a murderer were clearly linked to, say, a feast...not everyone in the gluttony group would be related because someone could be abstinent or someone with pride might be humble.

Yeaaaah. I mean, I guess in this case -- to want to speed up time enough that you'd kill for it, you've gotta be the opposite of sloth. You've gotta like, want to do things? I don't know, something like that.
