week 1 - trial; day 1

seven vices case 1 trial, day 1

saturday

At 9AM, every television will go off, loud enough to wake anyone sleeping. The calm, apathetic voice will advise everyone to gather in the chapel for the trial. Static will continue to blare in the head of anyone dillydallying.

Once all of the guests have gathered in the chapel, the doors will lock. Most of the pews have been moved aside to allow for more space, and a few tables have been set up on the altar. On the first, there is an additional copy of the rulebook, and the information cards of the victim and suspects laid out, with space for the suspects to provide their whereabouts, as well as an autopsy report. There is also a large wheeled chalkboard upon which you may write theories. On the second table is a pitcher of water and some glasses, as well as very simple sandwiches and pastries.

The door behind the altar has finally been unlocked. It's a rather plain room with an area set off by a folding screen. Inside, you will find a table on which the victim's body has been laid out. Next to the table, two black and white photographs have been hung on the screen. they are close ups of the victim's body, as it was found when the body discovery announcement chimed. A few sticks of incense burn in the corner to avoid any smells.

At 6PM, the trial will adjourn. Everyone will be escorted back to the hotel by Miata, after which everyone is allowed to head to either the kitchen to get dinner, or to their rooms. Attempting to wander off into the other areas of the hotel will trigger the static alarms in everyone's heads/televisions.

[She frowns.] Unless he was a HUGE weenie, he would have struggled if they'd tried to pick him up. Even a really good fighter probably wouldn't be able to avoid getting bruised from that position with their hands full. Plus he'd have to fall in a really weird way to crack his head like he did.

It's true, you'd have to rotate him... [Lithuania gestures pointlessly with her hands to demonstrate this weird rotation.] He might not have struggled as much if he was drugged beforehand, but it would still be awkward.

How fast do the drugs affect humans? If someone dropped behind him and jabbed him with these drugs, would he have had a chance to turn around and try to hit them or anything?
herbgrace: (I'm doing fine)

The kind of morphine you inject begins to take effect immediately. It reaches full effect in about ten minutes, but it might take effect even more quickly with benadryl acting alongside it. [She's not sure there.]

Ten minutes is still a pretty long time, though. Long enough for him to try running or hitting whoever attacked him.

It's true. It's difficult at this point to discern the actual timeline of events. At some point his hair got scorched, he was injected with medicine, and he got his head and neck injury. The last two must have been last, but for everything else...

...ugggh, why can't the killer just confess already so I can beat them up?! This suuuucks!!

It's the scorchmarks that are really bugging me! I get drugging someone if you're too weak to fight them, but what's the point of burning them too?!

[personal profile] fourleafcleaver 2016-02-21 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
Probably. Even the strongest drugs don't hit you so fast you wouldn't be able to at least, like, start to turn around. [She's been drugged like TWICE she's BASICALLY an expert!!!] That's a really bad combo of stuff, but it shouldn't have been instant, and he was a big guy.

[Looking thoughtful!] So he might have been able to attack whoever killed him before he died. And I bet someone who's weak enough to have to resort to drugs probably wouldn't be much good at dodging all of his blows.
fourleafcleaver: (just because you're twice the size of me)

[personal profile] fourleafcleaver 2016-02-21 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
It's not impossible? But even if the stuff didn't knock him out right away, there was enough that it should've been really disorienting. If he did pull himself together enough to decide the first person he saw did something to him, and then decide to try fighting them, they wouldn't have been very good hits.

Looking at the footprints, I think it seems like he was just stumbling around instead of really...doing anything. And there's only one set...
detanimetion: (serious)

[personal profile] detanimetion 2016-02-21 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe he was...trying to hit someone in the air? Or the killer covered up their own footprints?
fourleafcleaver: (i'm gonna blow up i'm gonna blow up)

[personal profile] fourleafcleaver 2016-02-21 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
The first one, maybe. Covering up just your footprints is really meticulous work, though, isn't it? The chances of either missing a spot or at least starting to erase the other footprints are too high, and it doesn't look like that's what happened.

...It's weird that there are footprints there in the first place, though. Like, did he go from there to the roof and then fall down? He sure didn't fall and then start walking around a little.
detanimetion: (considering)

[personal profile] detanimetion 2016-02-21 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
Huh. There weren't any footprints leading up to that spot, were there? Or from the door of the hotel to the chapel?
fourleafcleaver: (they could care less)

[personal profile] fourleafcleaver 2016-02-21 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
Nobody mentioned any, at least. But I didn't go look myself...
detanimetion: (serious)

[personal profile] detanimetion 2016-02-21 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't look either. [let someone else do all the busywork!!] But if there aren't any, that's weird, right? How did he get to the chapel without leaving any footprints behind? And if the killer covered them up, then why not cover the rest too?
fourleafcleaver: (everybody's got a limit all right)

[personal profile] fourleafcleaver 2016-02-21 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
Right? Super weird. But I've got nothing.

The snow on the rooftop was messed with, so someone who wasn't Takao was almost definitely up there, and they probably covered their footprints there. But it doesn't look the same where they found him... I really don't know.
detanimetion: (disgusted)

[personal profile] detanimetion 2016-02-21 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh, this is why I hate puzzles!! Just kill someone and be done with it!

Plus!! There's another weird thing about the footprints! How come the killer's aren't there? How'd they get back to the hotel, by flying there?
fourleafcleaver: (did my invitations disappear)

[personal profile] fourleafcleaver 2016-02-21 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
Um. Well, puzzles suck, yeah. [NO COMMENT ABOUT THE KILLING BIT]

A few people on the suspects list can fly... They must have gotten down the same way they got up, whether it's that they flew, or...climbed...somehow.
