week 1 - trial; day 1

seven vices case 1 trial, day 1

saturday

At 9AM, every television will go off, loud enough to wake anyone sleeping. The calm, apathetic voice will advise everyone to gather in the chapel for the trial. Static will continue to blare in the head of anyone dillydallying.

Once all of the guests have gathered in the chapel, the doors will lock. Most of the pews have been moved aside to allow for more space, and a few tables have been set up on the altar. On the first, there is an additional copy of the rulebook, and the information cards of the victim and suspects laid out, with space for the suspects to provide their whereabouts, as well as an autopsy report. There is also a large wheeled chalkboard upon which you may write theories. On the second table is a pitcher of water and some glasses, as well as very simple sandwiches and pastries.

The door behind the altar has finally been unlocked. It's a rather plain room with an area set off by a folding screen. Inside, you will find a table on which the victim's body has been laid out. Next to the table, two black and white photographs have been hung on the screen. they are close ups of the victim's body, as it was found when the body discovery announcement chimed. A few sticks of incense burn in the corner to avoid any smells.

At 6PM, the trial will adjourn. Everyone will be escorted back to the hotel by Miata, after which everyone is allowed to head to either the kitchen to get dinner, or to their rooms. Attempting to wander off into the other areas of the hotel will trigger the static alarms in everyone's heads/televisions.

Some were only half-made... it might help us figure out how the culprit was walking, as well.

[How does someone walk when they're wearing too big shoes anyway...?]

That sounds like running, right? [right???] Wouldn't you trip?

It might be possible that the prints were half made because they decided to fly away from where the body was found.

Fly?!

[She is used to weird shit but... Is this a well known thing people around here can do?]

Read the profiles again. Out of the five suspects, three of them have the capability of flight. Also, it looks like someone pushed Takao from the roof, and I haven't seen any ladders or stepladders to get up there.

Oh. [Just because hers was right it's still hard to believe everything it said.] Then that cuts down the suspects. The two that can't fly wouldn't be able to get up there.

That's most likely the case, I believe...
keepshispride: (You're all idiots.)

[personal profile] keepshispride 2016-02-21 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
Why fly away when you walked there in the first place? [THE FACT THAT THE OBVIOUS FLY GUY IS LISTENING IN NOW IS IRRELEVANT]

Anyway, that wouldn't effect the footprints that were made, unless they were half floating as they walked. Which would be a ridiculous waste of energy.
hopefragment: *presents panties* (i'll prove it with this!*)

[personal profile] hopefragment 2016-02-21 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
...Is it possible to weigh someone down while they're flying, maybe? And that's why there'd be footprints? As if their whole weight wasn't on their feet, I mean.
keepshispride: (Seriously I am due.)

[personal profile] keepshispride 2016-02-21 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
[Shrugs.] You weigh someone down when they're flying the same as you would when they're walking. Flying involves lifting your body weight along with whatever else you're carrying and uses energy.

If you were struggling to lift something- [or someone] it would be a more efficient use of energy to just walk.

[personal profile] dereban 2016-02-21 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
But is that the case for everyone? I mean, in regards to flying. Since everyone's flying ability might be different. Not that I'd know.

[ SHRUG ]
keepshispride: (His turn to princess carry someone)

Everyone who flies using energy- their ki. Magic isn't my area of expertise.

[Because what he does absolutely isn't magic.]

But if what they were carrying weighed them down, I don't see why the idiot would bother flying at all. [... Actually maybe he can.] Unless he was too tall for them to carry without dragging him along the ground.

[THAT PETITE LIFE.... Also apparently Vegeta is done pretending he's not imagining someone being weighed down by Takao's corpse.]

Well, he's 176 centimeters - that makes him about [ gestures with his hand ] this tall. And out of the three who can fly, Hanyuu's the shortest, being 140 centimeters, then it's you at [ why American measurements ] about 162 centimeters and Houraisan at about 170.

One of the reasons I can think of why they would do that is to throw off the scene of the crime... that is, if the cause of death was poisoning rather than falling.

[ She wants to be absolutely sure that they're not making a Mistake?? ]

[personal profile] hopefragment 2016-02-21 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
The cause of death was written to be blunt force trauma or a broken neck, though. Unless you think they provided us incorrect information for the autopsy? That didn't come from any of us, right?

I don't know about the fall itself, but I think for now we might be able to rule out poisoning.

It does say "appears to be", instead of something more certain.
hopefragment: definitely not thinking about boobs (thinking carefully*)

It doesn't mention the pinpricks you found, either. I'll check with Miata.

Assuming they were wearing oversized shoes, yes. Or they could have been on the balls of their feet. Or running wearing their regular shoes.
