week 1 - trial; day 2

seven vices case 1 trial, day 2

sunday

At 9AM, every television will go off, loud enough to wake anyone sleeping. The calm, apathetic voice will advise everyone to gather in the chapel for the trial. Static will continue to blare in the head of anyone dillydallying.

Once all of the guests have gathered in the chapel, the doors will lock. Most of the pews have been moved aside to allow for more space, and a few tables have been set up on the altar. On the first, there is an additional copy of the rulebook, and the information cards of the victim and suspects laid out, with space for the suspects to provide their whereabouts, as well as an autopsy report. There is also a large wheeled chalkboard upon which you may write theories. On the second table is a pitcher of water and some glasses, as well as very simple sandwiches and pastries.

The door behind the altar has finally been unlocked. It's a rather plain room with an area set off by a folding screen. Inside, you will find a table on which the victim's body has been laid out. Next to the table, two black and white photographs have been hung on the screen. they are close ups of the victim's body, as it was found when the body discovery announcement chimed. A few sticks of incense burn in the corner to avoid any smells.

At 5PM, the trial will close, after which everyone is expected to have cast their votes.

Huh, weird. So they weren't for himself, maybe.

It doesn't look like anyone used them at all. None of them are broken, they're all in the package, it doesn't look like any have even been touched. You'd think they'd break in the fall, if he had them on beforehand. [So maybe they really were planted to make it look like he had a cold?]

But why plant cough drops then? Maybe they intended to make it look like Takao went to the clinic and even hid around a ton of medical supplies in the process. I mean it's strange that we found everything but what seems to be the most important items.

It could have been used to explain the presence of benadryl in the refrigerator. It could also be used to imply that he went to the clinic at some point, yes--it could simply be that he was never anywhere outside except where we found him, which would explain why footprints are only in that area and not arriving at or leaving it.

But then there's the scorched hair. Something must have burned him too and I can't think of what would do that best other than the bonfire.

It's true. I can't figure out why it would only be slightly scorched, though--if he fell in the fire, or even if he was temporarily placed there, it should be much worse.

...If we're going with the theory that the medical stuff is a ruse, whoever burnt him might have thought that would show the bonfire was used somehow.

I also have a problem with the fabric. It looks like it got torn off and burned in the fire. How did that happen? It feels like there are so many things we're considering in this case that don't rightly add up.

It could be that the fabric is all that's left of a larger piece of fabric.

Yeah, that's a good point. We're assuming it got torn up and someone is hiding the piece it came from, but it might be the whole thing got burned up.

What it could be then? If it's all that remains.

It's difficult to tell. It could be a piece of the killer's clothing that had blood on it--obviously they would want to get rid of that as completely as possible.

I suppose they make bathing suits out of polyester sometimes?

Perhaps he was getting it for someone else who was ill?
