week 8 - trial; day 1

seven vices case 8 trial, day 1 ♫ saturday At 9AM, every television will go off, loud enough to wake anyone sleeping. The calm, apathetic voice will advise everyone to gather in the chapel for the trial. Static will continue to blare in the head of anyone dillydallying. Once all of the guests have gathered in the chapel, the doors will lock. Most of the pews have been moved aside to allow for more space, and a few tables have been set up on the altar. On the first, there is an additional copy of the rulebook, and the information cards of the victim and suspects laid out, with space for the suspects to provide their whereabouts, as well as an autopsy report. There is also a large wheeled chalkboard upon which you may write theories. On the second table is a pitcher of water and some glasses, as well as very simple sandwiches and pastries. The door behind the altar has finally been unlocked. It's a rather plain room with an area set off by a folding screen. Inside, you will find a table on which the victim's body has been laid out. Next to the table, two black and white photographs have been hung on the screen. they are close ups of the victim's body, as it was found when the body discovery announcement chimed. A few sticks of incense burn in the corner to avoid any smells. At 6PM, the trial will adjourn. Everyone will be escorted back to the hotel by Miata, after which everyone is allowed to head to either the kitchen to get dinner, or to their rooms. Attempting to wander off into the other areas of the hotel will trigger the static alarms in everyone's heads/televisions. >Discuss? victim   suspects      cast setting rulebook

I told you I get it already! Humans are fragile little eggs who can't take a hit unless they're on Team Pride and I should treat them all like Sans and not punch them or throw them out the window when they don't have immunity.

[Honestly, Break should have some sympathy for her here. Imagine not being able to smack Gilbert whenever he was being annoying because he might actually shatter into dust and die.]

[And she'll go back to reading Clover's instructions since clearly that is way more important than embarrassing Break with declarations of emotions and friendship.]

She left some instructions on what to do when she died. The pillowcase and papers you found both go to her brother. She wants me to take care of her bookmark for now and seal it in the envelope to her brother later.

Most importantly, we have to find Rhys' shoe and hide it again. [And off she goes to look under the bed to do just that!]

[Particularly not because reading lips is impossible when they're chewing on food! Just going to scoot a little closer under the table, which is awkward because he's tall.]

[Once the day is up, Undyne will be looking for Hinata, Buddy, Urashima, Rhys, Sans + Papyrus, and Poland so she can hand them a sealed envelope.]

Here. We found this in Clover's room - she wanted you to have it. [There's...probably a better way to put this, but ugh emotions that aren't passion and rage how do they work.]

Sometimes at restaurants and parties... but because dealing with strangers is stressful.

[Today there were no strangers but it was stressful. Poland crams more cereal into her mouth.]

It's not as bad as when Takao died. [ Not only was it the first trial, but it was really upsetting for him personally. Not to mention the whole thing with Clover yelling at him.

Mm... indeed. Not to mention last trial was-- well. There are quite a lot of words for them and none of them are good.

[ Ugh what is being a suspect. He can't stand to be so inactive, and it's only until now he's been able to think of something. ]

Although, I think I may have a few ideas, I wonder if people would listen...

Do you mind discussing some things with me a little? It's still a little late, however, and unfortunately I hadn't gotten too much of a chance to weigh in.

[ Yet even so, her bluntness is probably the best way to approach it, since the phrasing just gets Break to laugh instead of denying the sentiment. He knows some fairly blunt people, but still, hearing it dismissed that casually is surprising and humbling all at once. He doesn't join in the search right away, since he bows his head lightly with a soft, almost fond smile. He seems to be thinking of something, but he also doesn't share what it is. He's happier without the embarrassing declarations, so he'll keep it that way.

After a moment to regain his composure after his surprise, he'll check the other bed to do the same. Or whatever is left??? I'm bad at room searches, so I hope you didn't write a note identifying your killer, Clover!! ]

...If you wouldn't mind, I would appreciate it if you'd read it to me.

[ This is actually a step up from the last time he got letters, though admittedly, Gilbert's are a little different. Still, he's asking for help, which is as much of an acceptance of friendship as anything when it comes to Break. ]

When you seal up the bookmark, let me know. I can add it to her things.

Oh. [ Well he's here now, and doing his best to get comfortable, drawing his knees to his chest.]

It is. There's still a lot of people here. [ Which is probably pretty rude, but Yoite has his loner priorities in order.]

Okay. [ He takes a second to grab something to eat from the fridge then sits down, and nods at Dhaos to go ahead.]

You're right to be dubious. After all, it was a sudden and foolish idea that landed us here tonight.

[There's also the underlying fact that Satori is Paranoid As Fuck and Dubious About Everything without her eye, which may be fueling her agreement.]

[ His biggest fear is people turning against him for speaking up as last time he was in this position, people discounted his word and used him, so... this was actually very difficult for him. He doesn't expect most people to understand. If anything only a few, like Yoite.

But, he wasn't going to give up. ]

A good summary will be provided for tomorrow, hopefully. However, I think we have a few important things to get done and settle. For one thing, we're going to want to figure out when the matches were used. It has been bothering me for a little bit...

I'm surprised no one has talked about the marks around her neck either, with the bit of evidence coming in. I bet someone will tomorrow...seeing as it's easy to surmise the killer used one or two of those items to strangle her. I should hope we do not get distracted by anymore infantile subjects, but we do have people who love to entertain such things.

Those are just a few things. I also do think it's likely the killer covered their tracks, or attempted to at least, but couldn't do much about it due to running out of time.

[ And that's all he has for now. He hopes to bring a few of these things up tomorrow, or if someone else does. He resolves to say more tomorrow and if someone judges him for it, then... they would be very foolish, he thinks. ]

[She's also happier without embarrassing declarations, so she won't comment on his expression. Instead, she opens up his letter without any preamble and clears her throat dramatically.]

"Dear Break - you should definitely let Undyne paint your nails with glitter polish! Also eat more actual food, you can't live off gross sweets forever. Love, Clover."

...I'm kidding, I'm kidding! [And she'll read his real letter now. She tries to sound irritated when she reaches the end of it, but her voice mostly comes out fond.]

I don't even have fire magic, I have no idea what she's talking about.

They didn't ask about motives either. [ Which to him is concerning, considering it was usually important, last week aside.]

It's a bit like last weeks murder... [ He frowns upon saying that.] They had to rush, so they must have missed something.

Unfortunately so. If only people did so much as at least entertain the idea of exercising restraint before needlessly resorting to violence...

[ And if only Clover hadn't wandered off .... gurl.

He knows this trial is going to turn ugly at some point, especially considering one of the suspects listed up there. That's just his opinion. ]

There was... a lot less done than I thought there'd have been as well, I suppose.

[spoilers there's a piece of paper at the bottom of Rhys's shoe identifying not only her killer but every killer thus far but no one thought to look this entire time. also glitter polish wasn't in the letter but let's be honest with ourselves: it's what Clover would have wanted.

the beds are clear, though, if unmade disasters. where the fuck is Rhys's shoe, is it under one of her piles of crap, is it in underhell, did the annoying dog take it, is it in Sans's trash tornado, who knows]

[ He sighs. He expected people to ask others more questions, besides with himself and Yoite. This is not good in his opinion and utterly ridiculous. At least Hinata made quite an effort, and so did Roxy as well as Faize, for his mental notation. ]

We'll have to wait until tomorrow. In order to figure this out we'll have to look close at the evidence, I believe... and of course the events.

[ He then nods his head respectfully, taking the cup of tea. ]

Hinata just kind of shakes his head and follows Faize's gaze to the tornado. "Tornado." What the actual fuck, he's been trying to crabwalk around that thing the entire time.]
