Monday morning begins just like the rest, slow and uneasy. At 12pm, every television will go off with its usual bout of static, followed by Katerina's calm, albeit disinterested, voice.

"Please gather in the hotel lobby within the next hour."

That's all that it says before the televisions turn off. Anyone not in their rooms will hear the voice echoing around them as if through a speaker system, although there are (still) no speakers present.

After hearing the motive, characters who choose to explore will find that the void around the town has retracted a bit, and there is now boathouse and lake up North

Anyone looking for them will also find that Alisha's spear and Sadie's earmuffs are now gone.

This is Week 8's mingle log, covering Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday. Investigations will go up on Friday.

[ Given her motive last week, which was made public thanks for that Roxy, it's probably easy to guess just who Astrid's motive is. He's the only person in the room wearing viking-looking armor, after all. Hiccup doesn't generally look cowed, but probably does look sarcastic a lot of the time - if they're ever able to speak and move, he talks with his hands a lot, gesturing wildly.

Astrid's initial reaction to seeing him there is to swear violently, storm outside, and throw her axe into a tree - while Stormfly gets way too close to the screen because wow that's Hiccup before following Astrid out - but she can be found periodically checking up on the screen throughout the week and tracking Hiccup with a calmer expression. ]

Why do I get the feeling you've come up with twenty crazy plans by now? [ She asks, one day, with something almost like a smile. ]

[Faize was on his way outside when he notices Astrid over by the monitor and decides to come join her.]

He's that sort of person, is he? [The planning sort. Faize likes those kinds of people.] Hiccup, right?

Hiccup Horrendous Haddock. The third.

[ That is...all around a terrible name, but Astrid looks almost wistful, slanting a calmer look than usual towards Faize. She can't get to Hiccup right now, but... ]

I didn't really realize until how much I just missed. Seeing him around. [ He's been an everyday fixture in her life for the past three years. For longer than that, even - but before the day he'd ridden a dragon for the first time, they hadn't talked much. She'd thought he was a liability, back then. On screen, Hiccup's probably chatting with another captive, something about his hand gestures familiar to the way Astrid gets when she's incredibly frustrated, like he's rubbed off on her just a little. ]

You'd like him. He'd like - this. Not the murder, he'd hate that, but all the new things. Record players, light bulbs - it'd make sense to him, he'd want to take it all apart and build it back up. He's smart.

[Okay but Faize Sheifa Beleth, like this kid has any room to judge when it comes to long and terrible names. He barely even bats an eyelash at the name, but rather turns his attention from Astrid to Hiccup on the screen.]

Is he? I cannot deny that I get along fairly well with that sort of person, so you are likely correct. [Mostly because...Faize himself is that sort of person.] Perhaps taking him will prove to be a mistake on our captor's parts then. We may not be able to do much from here, but it could be rather a different story for them.

[Surely they can like...band together and bust out or something. Unless wrathmom(?) is stupidly powerful.]

[ She...actually grins. ]

I'll introduce you two when this is all over, okay? And you can, like. Nerd out about things I don't really get. Tell him about ships that fly in space? He'd love that. And...

[ Hm. What to say here? ]

When we were fifteen years old, Hiccup was the first viking to ever ride a dragon. We were at war with them before that, but he figured out a different way. He flew Toothless against the Red Death - a dragon basically the size of a mountain - who was controlling the others. He won, even though it should have been impossible. Lost a limb, but. [ A shrug. It possibly explains the whole metal foot deal he has going on there, though. ] Hiccup isn't the quiet captive type.

[Faize...okay, well that's probably SUPPOSED to be a smile but it's forced and just a little off. Like he's having trouble remembering exactly how a natural smile is supposed to work. He's working on it, okay, but it's hard still. Maybe by the end of the week he'll figure it out.]

I can do that. Perhaps even show him one, if we are lucky. [If there's one thing Faize can do, it's talk about spaceships. And he has the control unit for his ship, strapped to his wrist as it has been since last Wednesday, just...for some reason he hasn't been able to get the ship that's supposed to go with it. Not yet, anyway. But maybe later...]

He sounds like...a very admirable man. I feel slightly relieved knowing that at least one of our hostages is such a person.

[HIS SURE ISN'T...]

[ ...That sure is a terrible attempt at a smile. YOU KNOW WHAT? Astrid will slug Faize in the arm nearest her. REALLY HARD. ]

Don't do that. If you don't want to smile, don't. You look really creepy when you're pretending everything's okay.

[ ah....................#astrid hofferson style comfort ]

Ow! [There we go, there's a genuine emotion! One of irritation and pain as Faize raises his left hand to grab at his right arm. Ugh, at least she didn't get his dominant arm. He still needs to go teach Hinata how to sword after this.] You really need to consider methods other than punching when it comes to getting your points across! I assure you, it really isn't necessary.

[ PREDICTABLY, Astrid looks pleased with the reaction. At least it's real, okay! ]

Why? It worked, didn't it? You're actually annoyed, and you look annoyed. [ BUT DO YOU REALLY WANT HIM TO BE ANNOYED...why can't you cheer people up normally ] Look...things are terrible right now. Everything's gone straight to Hel and we've lost people we never should have lost. But you know what? I still have a goal.

[ It's a terrible goal. ]

I'm going to completely ruin every last one of these "Sins", especially Pride.

[ ..............is this even an accomplish-able goal who cares she's going to wreck their shit. somehow. ]

So...stop moping, stop faking, and help me out, okay? Or I'll keep beating you up.

[For a moment, he just gives Astrid a very blank stare. He's letting it all sink in. That is...truly an insane goal there, Astrid. Admirable! But fucking mental. After a few moments, Faize just hangs his head and shakes it a little, chuckling quietly. Okay...apparently something about that was amusing? Or maybe his emotional responses are just broken again, I mean he doesn't have the best track record of laughing at the appropriate times.]

And you said you weren't that prideful. [He looks back up, a look slight, but genuine amusement on his face. Not that he thinks this is remotely funny.] If you are planning to take out Pride herself, I think you may need to reassess yourself slightly.

[He finally pulls his hand away from his arm.]

That said, I will...try my best not to give you any reason to continue beating me up.

[ Vikings are, by nature, fucking mental. Death is an occupational hazard they accept almost flippantly. She grins, apparently unbothered by his laughter. ]

It isn't pride. It's skill and effort and determination!

[ AND PRIDE... ]

But good. Your moping around isn't helping anyone. And I don't know about you, but I'd rather set this world aflame than quietly keep playing a stupid little game.

[NO IT'S DEFINITELY PRIDE, ASTRID. LOTS OF IT.]

Mmm...aflame might be a little excessive. But...I have never wanted to play this game. So I would very much like to see it end.

So...team-up time?

[ She'll hold her hand up for a high five. NON-SECRET CLUB??? ]

[Faize raises his hand and sort of mirrors the gesture but does not...actually high five her. Because he doesn't seem to understand that's what she's looking for here.]

[SORRY. He's gonna leave you hanging till you explain. #aliens]

Yes. I believe so.

It's a high five.

[ She swings her hand over to slap his, finishing it up. ]

Approval and/or celebration, earth-human style.

[ Roxy's done it before, she knows, so it isn't just a viking thing. ]

Oh! I see.

[God why do Earthlings have so many different gestures that all basically mean the same thing. Last time he made an agreement with someone, he shook hands over it, not high fived!!]

[Faize raises his hand a little higher. Since...he never actually put it down, even after Astrid slapped it.]

Will you allow me a second chance to correct my misunderstanding?

[High five him again, he is Ready. He will totally slap her hand back this time if she indulges him.]
