week 7 - trial; day 2

seven vices case 7 trial, day 2 ♫ sunday At 9AM, every television will go off, loud enough to wake anyone sleeping. The calm, apathetic voice will advise everyone to gather in the chapel for the trial. Static will continue to blare in the head of anyone dillydallying. Once all of the guests have gathered in the chapel, the doors will lock. Most of the pews have been moved aside to allow for more space, and a few tables have been set up on the altar. On the first, there is an additional copy of the rulebook, and the information cards of the victim and suspects laid out, with space for the suspects to provide their whereabouts, as well as an autopsy report. There is also a large wheeled chalkboard upon which you may write theories. On the second table is a pitcher of water and some glasses, as well as very simple sandwiches and pastries. The door behind the altar has finally been unlocked. It's a rather plain room with an area set off by a folding screen. Inside, you will find a table on which the victim's body has been laid out. Next to the table, two black and white photographs have been hung on the screen. they are close ups of the victim's body, as it was found when the body discovery announcement chimed. A few sticks of incense burn in the corner to avoid any smells. And that our killer really didn't care if Gilbert wasn't planned at all but....

It clears Undyne. Even more than she already is. Why would she grab someone else's spear instead of her own? And I would go for my axe over Alisha's spear.

[ ALSO, THERE IS THE WHOLE...LIGHTNING IN A BULB THING... ]

Why would she use her own spear? People have been saying it would be really foolish to use our own weapons in case we could be linked to them.

So...using a different spear is less suspicious? Anyway, it'd be instinct. We're saying Gilbert interrupted, right? The killer won't be thinking about suspicious or not at that point. That murder wasn't planned, so we have to assume they weren't going "oh, I know, I have to kill this guy who walked in just now with a completely different weapon so no one catches on to me!" They're going to grab for the nearest weapon they know how to use, and for Undyne that's her spears she conjures out of thin air.

I'm not sure if a killer would bring their own weapon just in case ( wouldn't that depend on their plan? ) but since Undyne can summon her spears... I don't think it was her either, then, at least.

Why wouldn't you bring your weapon? [ SHE LOOKS BAFFLED. She hasn't taken her axe off since she got it back...does she sleep with the thing maybe but she also sleeps with a dragon so you know ]

The entire point of a weapon is to have it on you all the time.

[ There's another hum, since he has to piece this out. ]

Then perhaps taking a look at the fact that it could have been set up last night rather than Gilbert's portion may be more helpful. If it was something like that, then electrifying the water is straightforward, in a way. I don't think it's impossible for anyone on the list to have done it, but there are certainly people who would be more likely to be able to do it.

After all, Gilbert is... a mess, but it feels clear to me at this point that he wasn't planned. Alisha's was. Her murder was also much more indirect, so I think there's potentially something to be said about the "personality" of our killer from that.

I told Hinata our killer must be someone who doesn't care... someone who doesn't care if other people get hurt or how. Once they were finished killing both of them, they could have thrown everything into the pool and ruined the evidence that way but this person... they were having fun.

( Giving them a body scavenger hunt and descrecating Gilbert's body like that... )

That's possible, yes. But I don't know any of our suspects well enough to be able to point to them and say that such a thing fits.

[ He frowns deeply ]

...Though, as an idle thought, if it was planted the previous day, that would fit Sadie a bit better, wouldn't it? We've dismissed her rather easily because of the amount of work this required but technically, it wasn't supposed to require so much from how it was planned.

It still did involve running around while everyone was investigating, though. [Which, at this point, Lithuania is having a hard time buying Sadie being able to do even if she wants. ...Also.] She's going by Charlotte, now, by the way.

Because you attacked her with your dog without warning?

Laima wasn't attacking her. [Offended on behalf of Laima! Sadie wouldn't be alive if Laima was attacking her...] But I did simulate it by surprise to see how well she could run.

She was pretty bad, wasn't she? But she looked pretty scared too.

And? That part wouldn't have been planned in this scenario. She may be lazy, but necessity would likely be a fair motivator for her to be a little more active, I would say.

[ He hums lightly, then adds: ] Why? Why is she going by Charlotte, I mean.

She didn't get far when Laima made it seem necessary... [Is Sadie willing to go that far here...] I believe she wanted to choose a name for herself that she liked instead of ones chosen for her.

A dog is rather different from being caught with blood literally on your hands.

I heard something about paying tribute to her dad when I brought it up. Charles Manson, pretty well known murderer.

[crazily]

Is that so?

[ He frowns, since that's weird, but ok... He'll go with it. ]

Has she ever asked to have been called Charlotte before?

[brawlhalla]

Charles Manson was her father? Bill says he's some crazy murderer.

[ SHRUGS. ]

I don't think it was Hinata. I don't think he could do any of this to Alisha or Faize.

( This, he is absolutely certain about and he'll fight anyone who tries to say otherwise. )

I don't think it was Rhys or Undyne either, really...

( And this, he's a little less certain about if only because while he believes it, he doesn't have hard proof, really? He just likes them. )

And I do not believe it was Astrid. She would not kill Alisha.

[He's not going to elaborate on why he knows this. He just does apparently.]

...nor would she take such an...offhand approach.

With another spear in play, it certainly makes me think it wasn't Undyne. As Astrid said, there's little reason for her to have not used the weapon she was familiar with, even if Alisha's spear was available. It would point to her either way.

[ See Undyne!! He's considering other possibilities now. ]

And Rhys I'm quite certain isn't responsible, though that's based solely on the alibi I have with him, which can definitely be examined thoroughly if need be. For the rest... I do think it's unlikely to have been Hinata from my impressions of him, which leaves Sadie and Astrid. Of the two of them, I would have to guess Sadie. Yet, I will say, I'm not completely confident in that. It's largely based on Astrid's unfamiliarity with electricity, which could certainly be faked.

But Sadie couldn't run very far when Lituania's dog atta-- jumped at her either.

I don't have any reason to have killed anyone! Honestly, no one does. Why does anyone think the people who kidnapped us from different worlds - apparently? - will actually hold up to their end of all these ridiculous promises? And so what, people find out I'm in love with Hiccup?

[ she says, going red ]

It's not worth killing over! And I'm pretty fucking sure being a survivor isn't going to be any better than being dead. Shouty lady Pride seemed pretty intent on as many of us surviving as possible, and I seriously doubt it's so she can pat us on the back. Being retired isn't going to stop whatever the Hel they're up to, so why would I kill two people I like for that? Or for the Hiccup thing? It's pointless!
