week 7 - trial; day 2

seven vices case 7 trial, day 2

sunday

At 9AM, every television will go off, loud enough to wake anyone sleeping. The calm, apathetic voice will advise everyone to gather in the chapel for the trial. Static will continue to blare in the head of anyone dillydallying.

Once all of the guests have gathered in the chapel, the doors will lock. Most of the pews have been moved aside to allow for more space, and a few tables have been set up on the altar. On the first, there is an additional copy of the rulebook, and the information cards of the victim and suspects laid out, with space for the suspects to provide their whereabouts, as well as an autopsy report. There is also a large wheeled chalkboard upon which you may write theories. On the second table is a pitcher of water and some glasses, as well as very simple sandwiches and pastries.

The door behind the altar has finally been unlocked. It's a rather plain room with an area set off by a folding screen. Inside, you will find a table on which the victim's body has been laid out. Next to the table, two black and white photographs have been hung on the screen. they are close ups of the victim's body, as it was found when the body discovery announcement chimed. A few sticks of incense burn in the corner to avoid any smells.

At 6PM, the trial will adjourn, after which everyone is expected to have cast their votes.

... Let's look at this again.

We're looking at someone who is physically capable and most definitely someone who could have cared less about who they murdered.

We are also looking at the murder weapon being larger than a knife and likely a large blade, sword, spear or what-not.

Let's look at two of our suspects. Undyne and Astrid have an axe and a spear. Those are large, bladed weapons. Who else in the suspect pool would possess weapons of such nature?

[ No one, right? ]

I suppose you could say Hinata had access to a sword, theoretically. [She doesn't really believe he could sneak out and steal a sword, but for completion's sake.]

...I wouldn't steal Faize's rapier to kill Alisha!

[Not that he'd kill anyone with Faize's sword but COME ON]
herbgrace: (I'm doing fine)

[personal profile] herbgrace 2016-04-03 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't believe you did it, but I thought it only fair to complete the list.

I ... suppose.

[ He doesn't think so, either. ]

I am certain I would have noticed had he tried to take that. One could argue that I may not have heard him leave, but my sword was right next to the bed I was sleeping in.

[Like...literally propped up against the bed, what the hell Faize why are you like this.]

[At least he didn't have it IN the bed with them, let's just be thankful for that much.]
herbgrace: (I'm doing fine)

[personal profile] herbgrace 2016-04-03 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[Lithuania nods as if this is a completely normal thing to do with a sword. I mean, why wouldn't you want access to a sword immediately even in bed?] I honestly don't think Hinata did it, especially not with your sword, but keeping a habit of keeping in mind the items suspects may have had access to in addition to their normal ones may be important.
symbologic: about ten minutes ago. So he could be anywhere. (sigh ☄ He sent me "techno kitty quest")

[personal profile] symbologic 2016-04-03 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[RIGHT??? Right. He likes you, Lithuania. You get him.]

True enough. I just felt it important to point out that it was rather unlikely in this particular instance. For reasons other than the obvious emotional ones.
herbgrace: (I'm doing fine)

[personal profile] herbgrace 2016-04-03 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[Obviously they should spar later, being so completely normal about swords as they are.] Maybe there's something in town we overlooked? Otherwise it would come down to Undyne and Astrid, and one of them has a very solid alibi. [Meanwhile, Astrid...]
symbologic: sobbing, 'fuck you stars' at the sky. No more everclear for Edge. (sigh ☄ We found him flat on his back)

[personal profile] symbologic 2016-04-03 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
There must be. Because Undyne's time is completely accounted for, as you said, and Astrid... [He shakes his head.] Unless we truly are looking at an accomplice situation, it cannot be her either. She would not know how to set up the electrical trap in the pool.

["Let the lightning out of the bulb"......]

There's Alisha's spear too. If she had it on her when she went downstairs, anyone could have used it.

And...I guess Rhys could have gotten his hands on Break's cane? But somehow I doubt he'd be able to steal it without him noticing.
hopefragment: *presents panties* (i'll prove it with this!*)

[personal profile] hopefragment 2016-04-03 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Alisha's spear was found in her room, though. We'd have to... assume the killer had enough time to set this trap, kill two people, get Gilbert's head all the way to the record store, come back, clean Alisha's spear and put it back in her room...?

That sounds really far-fetched for half an hour.
detanimetion: (serious)

[personal profile] detanimetion 2016-04-03 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
You're assuming there's only one killer. If someone else took Gilbert's head to the record store, just getting Alisha's spear to her room and back wouldn't have taken that long.
dhaosu: (> evil lurks in the hearts of men)

[personal profile] dhaosu 2016-04-03 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
... Like Hinata said, it'd be impossible for this one to get their hands on Alisha's spear, and have time to put it back in 30 minutes.

Not to mention whomever did this seemed quite physically fit. And I think, since you have a solid alibi that leaves only one person. Astrid, correct?
detanimetion: (angry smile)

[personal profile] detanimetion 2016-04-03 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
So the murderer comes down to who owns a large blade - something that the killer took no efforts to hide?

Come on! It's never been that obvious!
dhaosu: (> jiiii)

[personal profile] dhaosu 2016-04-03 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
...

Vegeta's own case was actually obvious, once we re-examined a few details.
detanimetion: (serious)

[personal profile] detanimetion 2016-04-03 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the biggest detail being that the killer used a weapon they didn't own. Remember how much time we wasted accusing every suspect other than Vegeta because we all owned some kind of blade?
dhaosu: (...)

[personal profile] dhaosu 2016-04-03 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
How about this?

If we go by whoever is supposed accounted for those watching over them, who does it leave us?

Sadie and Astrid, correct?

[personal profile] symbologic 2016-04-03 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Astrid does not know how electricity works. She compared Rhys's analogy to "letting lightning out of the bulb" and she was confused by the power outage. Which means that she could not have set up the trap in the pool.
dhaosu: (> hm?)

[personal profile] dhaosu 2016-04-03 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
If Astrid had help... then it could be possible?

Perhaps we should look at the alibis again. Who else has a weak alibi besides her?

Astrid wouldn't have done it, be real here. Her viking pride wouldn't allow her to stoop this low, she's not Vegeta.

[ Just stating. ]
symbologic: I think I may be the most normal person in the room. (ponder ☄ For the first time in my life)

[personal profile] symbologic 2016-04-03 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I suppose, but I find it highly unlikely, as Alisha was one of the victims. However, to answer your question: Charlotte. She also has a weak alibi. And...

[He hesitates.]

I...find it strange that she was included in this lineup at all. She just seems so unlikely that it's almost...suspicious. Much like the situation with Vegeta.

[He seemed so stupidly unlikely since he didn't use swords...]

Gotta agree here. Plus, the other three are all pretty much confirmed to have been in their rooms through the night and most of if not all the murder period, right?

So if it's not Astrid, or it's Astrid and someone else, then Charlotte's really the only other person who'd have the free time.
