seven vices introduction

monday

At promptly 9AM Monday morning, every television in the hotel turns on. For a moment, static blares loud enough to wake anyone still sleeping, but it quickly fades out into a patternless gray image. After a few seconds of silence, a woman begins speaking.

"Good morning. Thank you for waiting so patiently the past two days."

Her voice is soft and easy on the ears, albeit a little flat and monotone.

"If you would please gather in the chapel within the next half hour, we will be happy to provide you with answers pertaining to the current situation."

Anyone not in their rooms will hear the voice echoing throughout the town as if via speaker system, though there are no actual speakers visible. Those who purposefully dawdle and delay going to the chapel will be subjected to their alarm clocks going off until they get up and leave.

Upon entering the chapel, everyone will find that candles have been lit, and a small table with various pastries, simple sandwiches, and juices has been set up in front of the altar. More importantly, though, are the 36 booklets placed on the pews. Curiously, they contain photos and profiles of everyone in the town--some with startling details. There are also a few blank pages near the end.

After the last person enters, the doors lock. The chapel is tiny, and very much cramped with 36 people inside, though the pews are still numerous enough to accommodate everyone--just barely. But you may as well get comfy, because it won't be another half-hour until someone shows up.

>Mingle?

This is another open mingle for the beginning of the plot. NPC interaction will come later in the day.

Sure, it leaves a lot of questions unanswered. [Taps his finger on his chin thoughtfully. Takao doesn't even care that his question proper has been totally rebuffed. He doesn't want to hear any more of this strange aging or species or murder stuff. Surely these freaky books would have been more specific than magic "tricks" if this were something that could kill people.]

Do you need tools besides your cane, for example?
crazily: (very close to the way I dirty talk)

Well! It helps to have props, certainly. A tophat, a deck of cards, or—

[ He picks up his informational booklet and twirls it between his fingers before it disappears. It's definitely not "real" magic, just a sleight of hand, but he's still surprisingly good at this sort of things. ]

I can make do with what I have, usually.
takanome: (Alarmed)

I didnt expect the swag tunes at all omfg

Woah!

[Takao immediately leans in with his elbows propped on his knees, chin in his hands, and lips pursed.]

Would you do it again?

[He'd heard that line of sight is the (actual real life) magician's main tool for this stuff, and if Takao is good at one thing besides throwing a ball with medium precision, it's the medium precision of his vision. Maybe better prepared, he can verify for himself how it works with just hands and aces and sleeves.]
crazily: (that water looks damn delicious)

Again? Who said I was finished? After all—

[ He can hear how Takao has shifted, so he's able to lean forward accurately to reach roughly behind his ear. He pulls back, and the booklet is in his hand, and it's the opposite one that it had "disappeared" into. ]

It has to return for me to do it again.

[Takao is occasionally accused of having eyes in the back of his head. As his profile makes it clear by lack of body markings (not that Break necessarily knows this yet, of course) he in fact has exactly two eyes in typical anterior positions. His enhanced awareness of what goes on behind him in a basketball game is largely peripheral vision supplemented extensively by slight twists back of his neck. The few inches directly behind his head area actually the most vulnerable areas, which doesn't matter in most games because the players and even the ball are much too large to slip into that area unnoticed.

Which is to say, when Break puts his hand behind his ear (not that he's shocked at the motion itself, within moments he remembers that this is a common maneuver) Takao can't see at all exactly what happens, and so he is enchanted.]

Awesome! So awesome! How long have you been practicing this art?
crazily: please do not take! (#258 please toot the horn now)

[personal profile] crazily 2016-02-11 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[ An art? My. It's the first time he's had his dumb pranks called such a thing, and it makes him chuckle into his sleeve as he pulls it back to partially cover his face. ]

Hm~? Goodness, how long has it been...?

[ Since Sharon was young, he would guess. He really doesn't remember doing anything of the sort before. ]

Perhaps twenty years or so?
takanome: (Amicable)

[personal profile] takanome 2016-02-12 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
That's-- [His first thought is actually really fucking vague but this would constitute Prying into matters about which Break has already indicated a preference to Not Discuss and rebuffed in ways that specifically allowed Takao to Save Face.]

A long time to practice! Do you feel like you keep perfecting the fundamentals, or have you picked up a lot more tricks than when you started?
