What it was, precisely, is lost to you, but you have the instinctive feeling that by escaping from it, you've avoided something terrible. When you open your eyes, you find yourself laying in bed in a dark, dusty room, facing a digital alarm clock. Its face, reading 12:01, is one of the only sources of light in the room. The other comes from the window, shadows flickering about. Opening the blinds will reveal that it is nighttime, and what looks to be a massive bonfire has been lit in the street at the front of the building. A wooden talisman hangs around your neck, with one of seven symbols carved on the back. Attempting to take off the talisman will result in a wave of intense dread, and the all-too-familiar nausea. A brass key engraved with a unique room number lays on the bedside table beside the clock, as well. But you won't get any answers just sitting in your room all night. >Investigate? This is an open mingle for arrival in the town. Waking up just after midnight on Saturday, characters will have the weekend to explore and socialize before the plot begins. The profiles and IC rulebooks (both the personal ones and the public one at the chapel) have not been revealed/given out yet. The kitchen will still 'prepare' breakfast on these days, and the bonfire will burn continuously into the daytime. Per items: smaller items that a character could easily carry with them will be in their rooms. Animals and larger objects will either be waiting outside or in the hotel lobby. cast setting

I've just been trying to put more clothes on, really... they honestly should have put us somewhere warmer, damn it.

I'm sure "they" aren't the least bit concerned for our comfort. They've already abducted us, so leaving us to freeze sounds about right.

[All these flavors and Satori chooses to be bitter.]

...That idea about more clothes is good, though. I can't believe I didn't think of it myself.

[Living in Hell means you forget what layers are since it's always nice and toasty.]

No. [ An immediate objection. ]

If they wanted to just do something like that, they wouldn't have left clothes in the dresser or my laptop on top of the other bed in the room that I woke up in.

[She'll address the point of giving the people who kidnapped them and dumped them in some freezing hellhole any credit at all in a minute, but.]

What is a laptop?

It's a piece of technology -- a small, portable, computer, you might say.

[ But does she even know what a computer is? ]

[unpleasantries]

[Judging by the baffled look on her face, it seems like the answer to that question is no.]

Something from the kappa, then...?

[dereban]

No, it's definitely not from the kappa.

[ Thank goodness she knows exactly what that is. ]

[unpleasantries]

From the outside world, then. If the kappa didn't make it, that's the only other source of technology.

[It's probably a good thing it's not the kappa. They're basically using her basement as a nuclear fusion reactor so she's still not quite sure what to think of them.]

...Oh. I probably should've asked this earlier. Are you a human, or a youkai? I'd just read your mind to check, but it seems my third eye has been blinded.

... The kappa makes technology.

[ Does she want more info? Not really. But as for her answer to that question: ]

I'm human, by the way. 100% percent. I'm just a normal high school student.

Just a normal student, huh...well, I guess that means something bizarre like someone who's abducting youkai to exterminate them is out.

[Unless she's lying about being a student?! Her third eye glances toward her again instinctively, but of course, it can't read anything.]

Though I'm not sure why anyone would want to abduct a normal human, either. It doesn't seem very exciting.

Yeah. [ She says that flatly, letting out a sigh. ]

And I don't know, either... it might be some sort of creepy experiment.

I'm still not entirely sure I haven't lost my mind, to be honest. This doesn't seem like something that could've actually happened.

[She's got another reason for believing she's nuts, but she's not about to talk about that to a perfect stranger.]

[ She mulls it over in her head before sighing. ]

I don't know... I'm just hoping this is a bad dream.

[unpleasantries]

I could pinch you, if you like.

[Satori reaches over, fully intending on pinching her.]

[dereban]

... Please do.

[unpleasantries]

[Satori gives her a good, firm pinch on the arm.]

Well, it certainly feels like I'm pinching someone who's actually there. I guess that's one point in favor of my sanity.

[She's not sure how to feel about that.]
