week 0 - arrival
![]() ♫ saturday & sunday 36 players remaining You remember happening upon something awful and nauseating. What it was, precisely, is lost to you, but you have the instinctive feeling that by escaping from it, you've avoided something terrible. When you open your eyes, you find yourself laying in bed in a dark, dusty room, facing a digital alarm clock. Its face, reading 12:01, is one of the only sources of light in the room. The other comes from the window, shadows flickering about. Opening the blinds will reveal that it is nighttime, and what looks to be a massive bonfire has been lit in the street at the front of the building. A wooden talisman hangs around your neck, with one of seven symbols carved on the back. Attempting to take off the talisman will result in a wave of intense dread, and the all-too-familiar nausea. A brass key engraved with a unique room number lays on the bedside table beside the clock, as well. But you won't get any answers just sitting in your room all night. >Investigate? This is an open mingle for arrival in the town. Waking up just after midnight on Saturday, characters will have the weekend to explore and socialize before the plot begins. The profiles and IC rulebooks (both the personal ones and the public one at the chapel) have not been revealed/given out yet. The kitchen will still 'prepare' breakfast on these days, and the bonfire will burn continuously into the daytime. Per items: smaller items that a character could easily carry with them will be in their rooms. Animals and larger objects will either be waiting outside or in the hotel lobby. setting |
2!!
Kamekichi, huh? He figures that must be this guy's friend.
After a few seconds of watching he comes a little closer. He's not close enough to touch Urashima or be touched in return, but he is certainly visible. And unlike the
swordother boy, he's actually found himself semi-seasonal attire, even if the warmth isn't why he donned a cloak in the first place. ] Sorry, but I don't think it's all that wise to go out hunting for someone in weather such as this. Not without any protection from the cold. And as much as whoever you're looking for would appreciate the search efforts, I'm sure they'd appreciate it more if you were safe inside.no subject
But ah! Who is this mysterious cloaked stranger sneaking(?!) up on Urashima? He jumps, having been so focused on his self-assigned mission, he hadn't even noticed anyone else. Huh? Is he... is he being scolded? He flinches at the criticism and takes one shy step back, )
I'm not... I'm not cold! ( He is, now that it's been brought back to his attention. ) I'm okay! Really!

As a show of goodwill Ranulf takes a step backward. See? He's not going to come closer if you don't want him to, and if he doesn't want to. His voice becomes a little gentler when he speaks again. ] You don't look so okay from where I'm standing. You're certainly not the coldest beorc I've ever seen, but if you don't head back soon who knows if that will change.

...
( One step forward and then another and he's trying to peer underneath Ranulf's hood. Is that what he is? A spirit? )
Who are you...? ( This guy's eyes are different colors. Like Souza and Nikkari. ) Are you... a spirit too...?
no subject
His ears are well covered, but not so well covered that they can't be discovered if someone comes too close.
Ranulf quickly steps backward. Twice. He's silent as he mulls over what the person opposite him just said. A spirit, huh? As he considers those words, his gaze shifts to the side and he rubs at the back of his neck. When he's done thinking, he looks back to Urashima and comes closer. ] If you're looking for a brother, I'm sorry to say that you won't find one in me. I'm no spirit, I'm flesh and blood like any other laguz.
[ Here, he reaches up and pulls down his hood. His cat ears perk, then twitch once. He had no intention of revealing himself, but, well. He guesses he can if it's to someone like this. ] My name is Ranulf, it's nice to meet you.
no subject
He jumps when he sees Ranulf's ears and though he clasps a hand over his mouth, it's clear from the way that his eyes light up that he's smiling behind his hand. )
You're a cat! ( Those are cat ears! ) Are they real?!
( No fear of discrimination from Urashima here, Ranulf. )
What's a lagus? Is that a kind of demon then? ( No insult intended... look, he's too excited for that to be intentionally insulting?! )
no subject
He rubs at the back of his neck again. ] Ah, yeah. They're as real as the rest of me. See? [ As he says the last word, he forces his ears to move. They lower, raise, then settle back into a comfortable resting position. Something seems to shift under his cloak from behind him as his ears move. ] And I guess it makes sense for someone to make that sort of connection, even if most from my tribe would find the connotations distasteful. Then again, saying that might be just as hurtful to some of the people here. My nose isn't as keen as it once was, but I can tell we're in the company of an odd assortment of people.
Like you. I just assumed earlier based on what you said, but... [ He raises an eyebrow curiously. ] You are a spirit, aren't you?
no subject
Haha--aaaah! ( Did he insult this guy? Did he insult a youkai? AAAH HE'S FLAILING ON THE SPOT. ) I didn't mean to!
( He's sorry?! )
I've never met a youkai before, sorry! ( Is he supposed to be respectful? Should he bow? Aren't some youkai bad? What is spirit-youkai etiquette? He doesn't know. Weh, he's freaking out all by himself, trying to organize all of his thoughts and figure out what to do. He barely catches Ranulf's question and only gives a quick nod of the head.
He's afraid to say anything else that might be offensive?? )
no subject
Whoops, maybe I should have chosen my words a little more carefully! Sorry, I didn't mean to mislead you. I'm not a demon, I'm a laguz. But that name doesn't ring any bells for you, does it? [ He really messed up, didn't he? Sheepishly, he drops his hand down to his side. ] That's why you asked about demons in the first place.
The easiest way to explain it is to say I'm not all that different from anyone else here. We're all living beings, even if we don't all look the same. Maybe this will help.
[ And then Ranulf shed his coat
LIKE A CREEP?? because really who opens up cloaks if they're not perverts or something. Now that his tail is free, it sways slowly from side to side. For now he leaves his coat folded over his arm. ]no subject
Back home... there are youkai and spirits and sometimes they can look like animals. Or look like people with animal traits but I've never met one with real ears-- ( Internally screaming when Ranulf takes off his cloak and shows off his tail. ) Or a tail...!
( Looks at Ranulf. LOOKS AT HIM. Ranulf you're probably the coolest person he's met all day... But he's staring and he feels rude and he shakes his head, patting his cheeks hard, and nods once. )
Sorry! I don't mean to stare... I've just never met a real ( youkai. Ah, but that wasn't right. ) I mean, a person like you before.
( And he gives a quick bow of the head, hair falling across the top of his head and over his eyes, )
It's nice to meet you! I'm Urashima. Urashima Kotetsu! A wakizashi from the Ikeda clan.
( That probably sounds like gibberish )
finally comes back to this
Don't worry, a little staring won't bother me.
[ Upon seeing the bow, he tilts his head to the side and his ears twitch. Ah...
Yeah, that didn't make a lot of sense to him. Don't mind him as he takes this chance to drape his cloak over Urashima's shoulders. ] I can't say I know what all that means, but you say with so much pride that it has to be important. I'm Ranulf, right hand to Gallia's King. [ Kind of. He may have run off with Ike or something. ]
