seven vices arrival

saturday & sunday

36 players remaining

You remember happening upon something awful and nauseating. What it was, precisely, is lost to you, but you have the instinctive feeling that by escaping from it, you've avoided something terrible.

When you open your eyes, you find yourself laying in bed in a dark, dusty room, facing a digital alarm clock. Its face, reading 12:01, is one of the only sources of light in the room. The other comes from the window, shadows flickering about. Opening the blinds will reveal that it is nighttime, and what looks to be a massive bonfire has been lit in the street at the front of the building.

A wooden talisman hangs around your neck, with one of seven symbols carved on the back. Attempting to take off the talisman will result in a wave of intense dread, and the all-too-familiar nausea. A brass key engraved with a unique room number lays on the bedside table beside the clock, as well.

But you won't get any answers just sitting in your room all night.

>Investigate?

This is an open mingle for arrival in the town. Waking up just after midnight on Saturday, characters will have the weekend to explore and socialize before the plot begins. The profiles and IC rulebooks (both the personal ones and the public one at the chapel) have not been revealed/given out yet. The kitchen will still 'prepare' breakfast on these days, and the bonfire will burn continuously into the daytime.

Per items: smaller items that a character could easily carry with them will be in their rooms. Animals and larger objects will either be waiting outside or in the hotel lobby.

[ Japan was at least a place he recognized, and he nods at that.]

Yes.

I'm from Japan too. [He adjusts the scarf around his neck as he talks, uncomfortable with just about everything.]

...I was doing something important. I need to go back. [Fighting for Miharu's life (and his too, maybe.)]

[Takao emits an interested hum at the other boy saying he's from Japan too; it makes sense from his appearance, but knowing is kind of nice. So he's not the only Japanese teenage boy. That's good, maybe? I mean, there's not much Takao can do about sending him back, though. "Get in my rickshaw, I'll pedal you out to our country."]

We definitely shouldn't be here. You don't have a phone or anything to call for help, do you? I haven't met anyone who knows much more than us, so far.

No. [ Nor would he really know how to use a cell phone, truthfully.

A beat as he thinks.]

Before-- what were you doing?

Hmmmmmm... [He puts both hands on the back of his head and looks up at the flickering shadows that the bonfire casts on the second story wall of the hotel.]

I had just gotten home from a birthday party. Getting ready to turn in for the night, that's why I didn't have my own phone right in my pocket. [He nudges the rickshaw with his foot.] I definitely remember parking this outside my house, so it's weird that it was outside the hotel this morning instead. You'd think someone would have called the cops to report grand theft rickshaw. [Takao. Come on. Okay, yeah, he totally realizes that this guy would be a tough crowd even if he hadn't just been traumatically kidnapped. Not the target audience. This is a habit, though. It's for Takao's own benefit.

His next words are a little more hollow and fearful, albeit spoken at the same breezy speed.]
Then all of a sudden I felt really sick. I started wondering if the punch had been spiked or something... [These are not the single truest sentence formation blocks that have ever left Takao's mouth. The thought process is what he had logically retrofitted onto the events after getting his bearings in the bedroom. At the time, there had been a much deeper, less natural, greatly disturbing psychological feeling.]

And so I woke up here! That's about it. [He shrugs, smiles very slightly. Other guy's turn.] How about you?

............. [A long silence.

That was quite a mouthful. It's a blessing that Yoite can see his lips move clearly, even if he is speaking fast-- there's no way his ears could catch every word of his story.]

I was...fighting. [ He had debated not answering at all, but he's more than a little desperate for any kind of information.]

Do you usually feel sick? [ The question is odd, but Yoite had felt ill too. But in his case, it's perfectly normal to feel like death.]

[Takao shakes his head.]

No... I get colds but nothing like that, and definitely not all at once. [His brow furrows - there's an obvious question here, what the hell were you fighting about, this isn't a garden variety benign boxing match is it. Well, as long as he wasn't fighting their kidnappers, Takao guesses this can be Not His Business... (If this is some kind of "you never asked" shit three weeks down the line he swears to God.) And how sick does the other boy get??? Actually, it's pretty obvious from the phrasing. Takao misses a brief beat during all this thinking, though his brain is still catching up to his mouth in terms of any difficulty the other guy might be having with following him.]

Now that I've left the hotel I mostly feel better. [That's well after the early time he tried to remove his pendant - huh, the other guy has a different one, this is like the fourth one he's seen, Takao is almost ready for a stamp rally - anyway, that reluctance to remove some necklace was pretty much the weirdest thing that happened to him all day, maybe even more than the kidnapping, by virtue of being less natural.]

Then it's not normal. [ That's the confirmation he needed, given he's not the best suited to judge.]

It doesn't matter. I need to get back. [Not that he looks like he's in any shape to do so.]
