week 9 - trial; day 2
![]() ♫ Saturday At 9AM, every television will go off, loud enough to wake anyone sleeping. The calm, apathetic voice will advise everyone to gather in the chapel for the trial. Static will continue to blare in the head of anyone dillydallying. Once all of the guests have gathered in the chapel, the doors will lock. Most of the pews have been moved aside to allow for more space, and a few tables have been set up on the altar. On the first, there is an additional copy of the rulebook, and the information cards of the victim and suspects laid out, with space for the suspects to provide their whereabouts, as well as an autopsy report. There is also a large wheeled chalkboard upon which you may write theories. On the second table is a pitcher of water and some glasses, as well as very simple sandwiches and pastries. The door behind the altar has finally been unlocked. It's a rather plain room with an area set off by a folding screen. Inside, you will find a table on which the victim's body has been laid out. Next to the table, two black and white photographs have been hung on the screen. they are close ups of the victim's body, as it was found when the body discovery announcement chimed. A few sticks of incense burn in the corner to avoid any smells. At 6PM, the trial will adjourn. Everyone will be escorted back to the hotel by Miata, after which everyone is allowed to head to either the kitchen to get dinner, or to their rooms. Attempting to wander off into the other areas of the hotel will trigger the static alarms in everyone's heads/televisions. >Discuss? cast setting rulebook |

I believe all signs point to Bill Cipher being the killer.
For one thing, he intended to murder Faize--saving his dimension was too important for his personal feelings to get in the way.
At some point he had asked Faize to come along with him to the schoolhouse, after Hinata had already left Faize. When Faize began to turn away from Bill, that is when he struck out with his cane and managed to get a lucky hit against the side of Faize's head.
However, when Urashima and Inaba happened along the way, he had to change his plans suddenly. He decided as soon as Inaba ran off that he would use Faize as a easy scapegoat should he live.
He got the drop on Urashima, who likely had his back turned to the killer, and when Urashima went to face him, Bill already had swiped Faize's sword.
It did not take long for even Bill to decapitate Urashima. He decided to even cut him into pieces and since he already had knives on hand, he used that to pin Urashima's body to the tree. Then he stabbed Urashima with his own blade in his chest for good measure.
He tried to carry both Faize himself and Urashima's other body parts through the void, but he dropped the head along the way since it was too much. Plus, he had injured his hand, so that would make it easier to drop something.
...
After everything was done, Bill made sure to fly back to his room, and due to his open window it made it all the more easier. He washed off his rain coat and later went out to act like he was investigating.
If anyone of course has a counter argument on who else would be more likely suspect than Bill, I am all ears. Despite everything, I would like it not to be him, as we had quite an important interaction this week. However, I cannot afford to be biased.
Do also remember that I am looking for the truth like the rest of you.
[ He awaits for people to of course present their own words. ]

And dropping the head with an injured hand would also make the most sense, too.
[ But then again, she's not biased one way or another, so. . . ]

[He...hates to admit it, but this is actually a pretty solid theory save for the bit about the cane and THE PART WHERE BILL WOULD KILL HIM??????]

I find it hard to believe he'd have been able to carry all of that with an injured hand. The pieces don't match up.

I'll give you props, it's a pretty believable tale, but you're wrong.
[Like, seriously.]
There's not a whole lot I even really need to argue, because I have no motive to kill someone, especially not Hazelwood. Like I said, I didn't look into that ball. Even if there is something I really desire, there's no way to know if that's what was in there. Killing without even knowing that much is just stupid. And before you make an argument for retiring, that'd be wrong too. I don't care about retirement. Retirement is just as good as losing, when the object of this game is to push us all to kill, and I don't lose.
Moreover, like I told you, we were close to figuring that out, me and Sixer. And Hazelwood was helping me too. We hadn't finished any of our ideas, so why would I kill him? Personally feelings put aside here for a second.
[Weren't you even listening. He's cool as he talks.]
For the sake of everything else though, I couldn't have hit him with my cane. I left my cane in my room that day, and I don't think I could have done it very well with my injured arm. I'm right handed, and both my arm and my hand are injured.
I'd also like to point out that I wouldn't have had time to wash the coat with this time frame. I met up with Dragonrider almost immediately after the body announcement.

[ LIKE. She's probably hella biased here and could be wrong, but. ]
Besides, I thought we matched the wound on Faize's head to the rock or whatever? Or did that become not a thing again.
no subject
She might have overlooked it, but I did wonder if it could have been used as an attempt to hide another kind of wound, one that might be more distinctive.
[A la Satori.]
But I agree, I don't think it was Bill.

...Could whatever had blood on it have been... sunk into the lake? I mean, it's frozen, sure, but... just a rock holding it down would be enough that we'd never find it.

Did he also have the raincoat on him?

So you're saying it's impossible for you to have committed the crime due to your injuries, all of this aside. You weren't in the proper shape to do all of this yourself.
Then surely, you must have other suspects. Anyone else up on that list who looks like a viable candidate?
Since you do not suspect Roxy, who else?

[ Listen, he doesn't like Rhys too much, so.... ]
I wonder if he has anything to say about his alibi, concerning that.

Hey! I mean, fair, but like... no. No, this isn't the murder I have planned at all! So, it wasn't me. Bisecting's really gross, bro.

Hey, Faize. Your rapier is one-handed and you're left-handed, right? Would it be awkward for someone to hold it in their right hand? Like, enough so that they'd have to use their left if they wanted to use it?
no subject
No, it can be used in either hand. [He'll take it back out to show, assuming it's...not still up in evidence or whatever. But basically, just by looking at it, you can tell a person of either handedness could use it.]

[Ah... there he go. He can't say he particularly likes Bill, but he doesn't think this is the right way of thinking, either.]
All we have is his testimony to prove that he didn't look into the ball, but don't forget -- this was a motive intended to drive any one of us to murder, not something tailored solely to him. But that's hardly the weakest point in this argument. Let me cut through it!
First, look at him. He forgets to eat. He forgets to sleep. How is he supposed to have the strength to carry Faize and half of Urashima in one trip? This isn't like Sadie, where it's a question of running, this is literally attempting to carry something through the darkness for several minutes, without dropping the heavier of the two things -- Faize -- along the way.
Not to mention a cane? Faize has increased endurance, it's on his profile. I don't think something like that could take him out in one hit. The blood on the raincoat is easily explained by the cut on his hand, which Astrid can confirm. On top of that, you're trying to suggest he flew? And no one noticed something that fluorescent flying through the sky. That's illogical.
Not to mention, as I've said before, he and Faize are friends. He'd definitely have gone after a different victim before going after "Hazelwood," I'm sure of it.

[ He folds his arms. ]
If not his cane, then it was some other blunt object. It could have been the rock was used more than once.
Regarding the flight problem, he could have ducked out of sight and then flown to get to his room in a position where he was more out of sight.
They are 'friends', but unfortunately, I do not know if that is enough.
That said, who else do you believe is a better suspect than Bill? Surely, you have some ideas. I know you think things through well.
