week 4 - trial; day 2

seven vices case 4 trial, day 2 ♫ sunday At 9AM, every television will go off, loud enough to wake anyone sleeping. The calm, apathetic voice will advise everyone to gather in the chapel for the trial. Static will continue to blare in the head of anyone dillydallying. Once all of the guests have gathered in the chapel, the doors will lock. Most of the pews have been moved aside to allow for more space, and a few tables have been set up on the altar. On the first, there is an additional copy of the rulebook, and the information cards of the victim and suspects laid out, with space for the suspects to provide their whereabouts, as well as an autopsy report. There is also a large wheeled chalkboard upon which you may write theories. On the second table is a pitcher of water and some glasses, as well as very simple sandwiches and pastries. The door behind the altar has finally been unlocked. It's a rather plain room with an area set off by a folding screen. Inside, you will find a table on which the victim's body has been laid out. Next to the table, two black and white photographs have been hung on the screen. they are close ups of the victim's body, as it was found when the body discovery announcement chimed. A few sticks of incense burn in the corner to avoid any smells. At 6PM, the trial will adjourn, after which everyone is expected to have cast their votes. >Discuss? victim   suspects      VOTING cast setting VOTING TENTATIVELY CLOSES AT MIDNIGHT CST.

What about a spear?

I think a spear's unlikely. It looks like that wound was made with a shorter blade - Faize's sword isn't a likely candidate...and a spear is even longer.

Then... what about a cane sword, like Break's? Would that be along the same lines as Faize?

You can take a look for yourself. It's not "a shorter blade".

[He'll pull the blade free - it's pretty much the same length as the cane. Basically a katana good work Break.]

This seems... a little more straight-forward, at least? In that no poisons or medications seem to have been involved at all.

Same deal as Faize's. It's possible, but really unlikely. Short sword over there may be a better bet.

...Maybe, but hasn't he been talking about how he wouldn't want to change the past? I don't know if the motive really fits him, and I mean... based on his behavior, I don't know how good of a liar he would be.

Its length would also be an issue, I think. Above all, it's the ease of having to slit someone's throat with a very long blade--whether it be rapier or katana or spear. Excuse me, let me show you--

[ She flies up to him, holding out her bare hand near Hinata's throat ]

Spears are designed for throwing and thrusting, so the movement would be awkward if you used it like a knife.

[ She shapes her fingers into a point, and mimes...the effect of trying to use a spear like a knife. Hovering a little over his throat area. ]

Katana-like blades are easier, but also difficult, depending on their length. Wakizashi and tantou are closer. [ Miming dragging a broader blade, again ]

But there's also something that would be even easier than Urashima-san's blade. A kitchen knife.

That would make sense. I know we didn't find anything, but after last week...someone would be sure to take extra care making sure it was clean and normal-looking, yeah?

What about the rules? Isn't there something about how if evidence is withheld, it may be disclosed at the trial?

But this would not be "withholding"...it would only be the culprit cleaning up their mess.

But then where does that leave us? If we can't narrow it down by weapon, then...

I think what is most important is figuring out the time frame. The order of events things went in.

Well, yeah, but does it count as evidence if there's nothing actually proving it was used? The rule says... [hold on let her dig her book out of her pocket] ...it says if a guest chooses to withhold evidence, but you can't decide to withhold evidence you didn't know was evidence.

I mean, the culprit would know it's evidence.

But you might be right. I don't know how helpful reading into the particulars of the rules is going to be.

Yes, that is what I was thinking. [ shooting an apologetic glance at Buddy ] Just, taking extra time to clean it and make it appears as though the kitchen had not even been used that night...that easily.
