What it was, precisely, is lost to you, but you have the instinctive feeling that by escaping from it, you've avoided something terrible. When you open your eyes, you find yourself laying in bed in a dark, dusty room, facing a digital alarm clock. Its face, reading 12:01, is one of the only sources of light in the room. The other comes from the window, shadows flickering about. Opening the blinds will reveal that it is nighttime, and what looks to be a massive bonfire has been lit in the street at the front of the building. A wooden talisman hangs around your neck, with one of seven symbols carved on the back. Attempting to take off the talisman will result in a wave of intense dread, and the all-too-familiar nausea. A brass key engraved with a unique room number lays on the bedside table beside the clock, as well. But you won't get any answers just sitting in your room all night. >Investigate? This is an open mingle for arrival in the town. Waking up just after midnight on Saturday, characters will have the weekend to explore and socialize before the plot begins. The profiles and IC rulebooks (both the personal ones and the public one at the chapel) have not been revealed/given out yet. The kitchen will still 'prepare' breakfast on these days, and the bonfire will burn continuously into the daytime. Per items: smaller items that a character could easily carry with them will be in their rooms. Animals and larger objects will either be waiting outside or in the hotel lobby. cast setting

[On the one hand, that stick has at least been sharpened, and the girl holding it looks prepared to at least try and use it. On the other hand, this girl is clearly a child, and that branch doesn't look like the greatest weapon.]

This isn't the best way to go around introducing yourself, you realize.

[Oh man. This guy is definitely some kind of nerd. A total dork. Listening to him talk is hard because he just wants to laugh. It's adorable almost, in that "I want to shove him in a locker and take his lunch money" kind of way. But he keeps his cool, listening very intently as he speaks.]

It is pretty backwater, yeah. Then again it may not be the locals we need to worry about, so who knows. People can be surprising. Two intellectuals like ourselves could figure it out if we worked together though, right?

Like some kind of power or magic has to be involved. I was a very magical being.

... Yes, I have. Alongside the edges of town there is a darkness that eclipses into nothing. Once I walked into there and was able to faintly detect traces of magic. Elsewhere, it is not present in the town.

I surmise that it will be the only clue available for now, since I have not found anything else of note.

[Excuse you. He swipes at the stick with his long and unnaturally sharp claws, shredding the stick. He's still not going to give her his name, just stare her down.]

What a sticky situation you're in now though. You're potentially the only person who saw anything, right? If too many others don't remember what's going on, they'd probably want you to share with them! But who knows what would happen to you if you said anything...then again, who knows what anyone here might do to you if you refuse to share.

[It's really good Break is blind, because he's missing yet another one of those unsettling smiles. Maybe he can hear it in Bill's voice though.]

OH MY GOD DON'T JUST THROW AWAY A PERFECTLY GOOD SPEAR LIKE THAT!! You could have hit someone! [Undyne says this with the firm conviction of someone who has definitely thrown a shitton of spears into the distance before without bothering to see if anyone might be in the way.]

So that's how you wanna play it? Fine! Don't say I didn't warn ya! NGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! [She starts running towards him, bringing her arm back to hurl her spear hard and fast at where he's standing. Immediately after it leaves her hand, she summons another one and sends it flying at him too.]

[ He really messed up, didn't he? Sheepishly, he drops his hand down to his side. ] That's why you asked about demons in the first place.

The easiest way to explain it is to say I'm not all that different from anyone else here. We're all living beings, even if we don't all look the same. Maybe this will help.

[ And then Ranulf shed his coat LIKE A CREEP?? because really who opens up cloaks if they're not perverts or something. Now that his tail is free, it sways slowly from side to side. For now he leaves his coat folded over his arm. ]

Ohhh so that's what you meant! I can't do even a quarter of what I used to be able to do. Actually, for that matter, I'm not sure I can do anything that I used to.

[He makes no promises. For now though he'll behave, more than happy to let this bright eyed human lead the way. Does this place have a basement? He has absolutely no idea, but hey if anyone's gonna find it, it'll be this guy. He seems to have that can-do attitude, even if he's a little shaky on the "sane and calm" aspect of good leadership skills.

Who knows what other useful things they'd keep in a basement too. Storage places like that are chock full of stuff. Axes, crowbars, other tools...maybe communication devices...
